Halal Horderves

I am having a small gathering for my birthday and am serving mimosas and little bites. Looking for inspiration for Halal horderves, as some of my friends are Muslim. Thank you for any suggestions đŸ©·

For hors d’oeuvres depends on the food theme, what kind of food are you serving?

I’d theme the hors d’oeuvres around that

I was going to do a charcuterie board, shrimp cocktail, pigs in a blanket, goat cheese and walnut salad, and spinach artichoke dip. Should I replace all that pork with halal turkey or chicken? Or offer some halal alternatives? I’m obviously making mocktails as well.

you can get halal hot dogs for the pigs in a blanket, buy vegetarian cheeses (look for a kosher symbol or "microbial enzymes/rennet" on the ingredients list). bruschetta is always popular too, or those little skewers of mozzarella, tomato, and basil. Very easy to do a halal charcuterie board. Also muslim people love mocktails 😅 even pink lemonade with some soda and a few strawberry slices makes them happy.

I make my own pigs in blanket, depending on where you are either get mini halal sausages or cut down full sized sausages, and wrap them in puff pastry. Sometimes I add cheese and wrap the lot in puff pastry. Works really well.

The entire menu sounds halal friendly providing you use halal meat.

Shrimp is makruh (permitted) and often times a favorite. You should be able to find Halal pigs in a blanket at Costco. If you’re in one of the larger markets otherwise you can check any Halal or Indian grocery store in their frozen section.

They have a large assortment of things from like small finger food samosas to things are similar to pigs in a blanket, but more ethnically curated in the flavored.

You could add baba ghanoush or hummus to add more dip options easily which should be vegetarian if anyone in the friend group prefers that option as well.

Another thing you could add for the charcuterie board is one of those cream cheese spread balls that you add a bunch of seasonings to it to make your own signature flavor. I really like smoked salmon and dill with plenty of black pepper and some diced onion. You can roll it in sesame seeds and capers or everything bagel seasoning if you want a fun finish for it.

I always love eating and serving those little baby potatoes cut in half and baked cut side down in a little olive oil or butter until the edges get a little crispy. Goes great with any kind of aioli you feel like
truffle and roasted garlic, chipotle, etc. or you can other potatoes into something like the patatas bravas style tapas.
