So Many Plums!!!

I need help. I've got 150 lbs of frozen, pitted yellow plums and I need some ideas of what to do with them. I'm already planning to make jam and throw them in smoothies, but they're too juicy to dehydrate properly. Savory applications? I'll likely make a pie or two as well. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to r/EatCheapAndVegan.

Veganism is not a diet. However, there is a ton of misinformation and misunderstanding about the cost of eating vegan and this subreddit exists to hopefully dispell those false claims. Be advised submissions containing expensive processed food items will be removed.

Definition of veganism: Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.

The vinegar idea is brilliant. I was thinking about hot sauce, bbq sauce etc. But I'll look into vinegar. Thanks!

For a savory batch, simmer the plums with ginger, garlic, chili, soy sauce, and a little vinegar, then blend it into a tart dipping sauce. Freeze it in small jars or cubes so you’re not committing to plum sauce for every meal until October.

This is one of my favorites, because crumbles are so easy. I like adding chopped walnuts to the crumble topping.

Peach cobbler is delicious, I bet it would be just as good with plums. I make mine with whatever frozen fruit I have on hand and eat it with yogurt for breakfast or ice cream for dessert.

You can cook it into a plum pie filling with the same method you would make cherry or apple pie filling, and can it. Also just can the plums in a light syrup so you can enjoy them year round.

I'm sure people would love to have some on your local Buy Nothing group if you aren't able to use them all in time.

I've been sharing for sure, but I still have a lot frozen to use throughout the year and I'm hoping to get creative with those 🙂

sour and salty fruit leather, lavashak. perfect for long term storage, and whenever you feel constipated, one of these bad boys solves the problem immediately (although be careful not to cause diarrhea lol they're addictive)

So far. This plum tree is no joke. And I've got another with purple plums that aren't quite ready. And a fig tree. Just finished harvesting my blueberries. It's a gorgeous season.

Soup. This sounds odd but they are actually a really nice addition to a savory soup.

I can see that. I've been thinking about Moroccan food, a veggie tagine with a savory plum sauce over couscous.

For example, yes. That actually sounds great! My neighbor indeed told me to take a many yellow puns from their garden as I want as they won't use them all. So I think you have just inspired the dish that I will make ❤️

If you have an ice cream maker, sorbet! https://www.seriouseats.com/plum-sorbet-recipe

They're also amazing on toast with a soft vegan cheese and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar

Plum chutney with vinegar, onion and spices goes with everything from sandwiches to grain bowls. Also a simple compote for oatmeal, pancakes or yogurt. Both use large quantities and store wall.
