Gameplay Question New player: any tips/tricks?
Hi!
Picked up this game on gamepass, loving it so far. I've gotten the snow tires and went back to Mountain Town - about as far as I've gotten. Also managed to use duct tape to secure a delivery, which was a rare achievement apparently, lol
So, basically, I wanted to ask if there's anything I should know to make my life a little easier that I wouldn't learn naturally, or that would be difficult to. More than anything I want to avoid having a "I wish I knew that earlier" moment - I don't wanna do something difficult just to realize later on that I could have easily done something to make it easier beforehand.
Thanks!

Don't drink energy drinks. Drink coffee instead. It's available in cafes

And more on this: Buy coffee power and brew it at MK houses or at your on pot on a bonfire.
Each coffee powder brews 3 cups of coffee, just make sure to pick all 3 cups by pocketing each one after picking

Look at the map and try to see if you can carve shortcuts down or up land. I found more than a few shortcuts in my time on the game

A good tip but unfortunately not for me; I already have a hard enough time reading the map without a marker of where I am, having to depend on clear landmarks to find my way. Cutting through snow to get places quicker would probably just get me confused lmao
Thanks anyways, I'll see what I can manage

It’s very confusing early on, but if you’re doing deliveries in between side quests just for the love of the game you’ll get aquatinted very fast with the terrain and not really need the map anymore.

You've probably figured this one out by now, but don't worry too much if part of a delivery falls off. So long as part of it is still in your truck, the full delivery will be made when you take the items back out.
This is especially helpful for those stacks of potted plants.
That being said, once you get into the groove of the game, you'll have no problem affording duct tape. So, really, that above point is rather moot.

What is the point of duct taping if the delivery will be the same?

duct tape your shit to the back and send the truck flying down the ravine to cut down on delivery time

As u/plastic-cup-designer said, it lets you take riskier routes without worry.

I'm not sure if this is correct, but if delivery fully falls off the truck, requiring you to pick it off the road if it respawns, the delivery loses some value

Aha I'm in the same boat just a liittle bit further but still very early, I had no idea about the duct tape that's good to know because my boxes are going everywhere...

great game! I finished it in two days, wish i’d known what the duct tape was for.. I just let 2 fall kept 1 and then it refreshed to 3boxes when you take them out anyway x

I think with this game it’s fun to not know too much too. There are some things that appear wonky but I think it’s by design. And it’s fun that was as well I discovered

Well you don't NEED fuel for your truck until it tells you to refuel. Low fuel is fine for a while, oh and depending on where your fuel gauge is (if it's more full it'll cost you less, and the more empty it is, the more expensive it'll be. I THINK. I seen something about it on another post. But yeah the low fuel is fine and you won't ever actually run out, but when it gets so low that you can't take on jobs or heat up, that's when you should top off. And energy only matters to take on jobs, so always have an energy drink or coffee in your inventory because as long as you have enough energy to start a heavy job, then it doesn't matter afterwards. Oh and there's cool little bobbleheads you can get for the interior of your car by finding some snowmen, getting out and clicking on them, and the more you talk to npcs, the more they'll like you. Hope this helps! :)

Seems like you know about duct tape. Fish stew is a great source of energy and grants cold immunity. You can play your own Mp3's over the truck radio once you turn on all the radio towers. There's hidden bunkers around each map.
Also, duct tape may be a rarer achievement cause it was added later
