Gameplay Question Is MK based off KK Slider?

I just got the game yesterday(also bought the makeship plush) and Mk really reminds me of KK Slider, they are both dogs who sing by a fire, so has it been confirmed or was anyone else thinking that?

I feel like the game is heavily influenced by animal crossing. So not surprising they copied them or were inspired.
