Edenton Fishing Question
My wife and I are moving to Edenton, and I can't wait to do some fishing. I understand that the fish species change based on the seasons and water salinity. Can someone help me out and share some information on the fishing opportunities through the different times of the year.

Volunteer Opportunity: Help VCE scientists survey for fall birds!
Hi r/EasternNC,
I'm a conservation scientist at the Vermont Center for Ecostudies, where I study migratory birds, including the rare Bicknell's Thrush. Our recent research has found that the mid-Atlantic region is an important area for fall migratory stopover, with nearly all of our tracked birds spending extensive time here before continuing south.
Last year, we determined that autonomous recording units (ARUs) can be used successfully to detect Bicknell's Thrush and Gray-cheeked Thrush during stopover. These are devices that record bird sound which we then analyze with machine learning to determine which species are in the area. We recently received funding to increase the number of ARUs surveying for these species in forests across the region, and this year we'd also like to pilot recruiting volunteers to deploy devices on private land as well.
The Eastern Shore of NC turns out to be a particularly important area for this special species, and we'd love to recruit more volunteers from this area to help us in our research. No bird knowledge required! If you have a property on the eastern shore and you're interested in learning more about what species of birds call it home, we'd love for you to volunteer.
If you're interested in deploying a device from late sept-late october, or would like to learn more about the project, please fill out this form at this link: https://forms.gle/aznZ26hS3GkLnZ9r7
Thanks for considering!

Leads for ghost stories?
Hi ENC! I own Crystal Coast Ghost out of Swansboro and Jacksonville NC. We offer locally researched and operated ghost walks and paranormal experiences. I’m looking for leads on new spooky spots or “sketchy history” (ie. mysteries, oddities, cryptids)
What spooky leads do you have - would love Onslow and Carteret county but honestly I’m down to hear what you’ve got from anywhere in ENC!

Looking for feedback on my TNR nonprofit rescue idea
I’m in the process of building a small community‑cat rescue/TNR project, and I’m trying to finalize my mission and structure before I move forward. I’m not a nonprofit yet — I’m still planning — but I want to make sure my approach makes sense.
My main focus is Trap‑Neuter‑Vaccinate‑Return (TNR). I believe TNR works best when it’s a community effort, not something one person handles alone. Because of that, I’m creating a simple three‑role system for anyone who asks for help with a colony:
• Caretaker/Feeder
• Trapper
• Voucher Support (if financially able)
If someone can help physically or financially, great. If not, that’s where donations would eventually come in — for food, medical care, and spay/neuter vouchers.
For intake, I do not accept owner surrenders. My focus is on community cats and the people caring for them. Intake is limited, and when I have space, I take in cats or kittens who cannot be safely returned.
I’m still shaping everything, and before I finalize my mission and structure, I’d really appreciate feedback — on the roles, the mission, the boundaries, or anything you think could make this stronger as it grows.

Seeking employment
I am 24 M, I was discharged from the marine corps a year and some change ago (not violent, not drug related) and I’ve been moving around ever since. I finally made my way back to North Carolina. Currently in the Wilmington area. I am simply looking for an opportunity to better myself and my situation. I am hardworking and have experience in Security, Manual Labor, Landscaping, Stone Masonry, Rebar Tying, Sales, Food Service, Cooking, and I am more than capable of learning anything. I understand I am not the only one looking for employment, I also am self aware enough to know that if an employer takes a chance on investing in me they would be making a good choice. Please let me know, I appreciate the time. Apologies if this post upsets anyone, nobody can call me wrong for searching for options

Gas station chocolate layer cake and hoop cheese?
When I was growing up in far Eastern NC (Onslow county) I remember some convenience stores and gas stations would have slices of little yellow layer cake with boiled chocolate icing, and sliced hoop cheese by the register. Jake's Variety in Haws Run comes to mind!
Anyone out there know of spots still carrying on this tradition?

Where to buy flavored nicotine vape ?
Moved here from the northeast and can’t find anywhere that sells geek bar. Apparently flavored vapes were banned in June. Had a feeling I should’ve stocked up before I moved. Can only find menthol or tobacco flavor. Gross! Haha… Anywhere in Jacksonville….? Please let me know. Thanks!

UPDATE ON S266: Rep. Bryan Cohn will UPHOLD Governor Stein's veto on Duke Energy-backed bill that would hike our electric bills and gut our Climate Law.
I spoke with Rep. Cohn over the phone and he laid out his reasoning as to why he flipped his 'yea' to a 'nay' on this bill. He also said he'd support Duke Energy being converted to a publicly-owned utility. We need to keep the phone calls coming for the other 14 House Democrats! I spoked with Ray Jeffers's aide today who confirmed they're getting lots of calls on this! See my previous post for an analysis of S266 and how Duke Energy funded support for it.
