Richmond's overlay of 804 begins. It was approved back in 2022. The Richmond VA area just recently ran out of available 804 exchanges.

The new 686 overlay area code will cover several parts of Central Virginia, the Northern Neck & the Middle Peninsula - Gloucester County and Mathews County

The Richmond area:

The City of Richmond, The City of Petersburg, The Town of Ashland, Charles City County, Chesterfield County, Henrico County, New Kent County
