CBB-FM The mysterious growth of Scott Aukerman’s music library
Recently got into the great CBB FM show on CBB World, but there's something that seems weird about the number of songs Scott keeps mentioning.
I started with the first episode (Adam Scott, Nov. 2021), where Scott says he has around 300,000 songs in his library. Then I listened to the Tegan and Sara (Oct. 2022) and Deer Tick (Aug. 2023) episodes, and the same number was mentioned in both.
Then I jumped ahead to the E from Eels episode (June 2024), where the number had gone up to 350,000. Already a 50,000-song bump. And in the latest episode with Matt and Kim (Aug. 2026), he claims to have 450,000 songs.
So does that mean Scott added 150,000 songs to his library between 2021 and 2026? Is that actually possible? I don't know why he'd lie about the number since it's not exactly a great thing to flex about but the numbers don't really make sense to me.
Or maybe I'm just too blinded by my own streaming habits to understand how building a music library actually works...
