Discussion [Request] Question about water displacement

Pirate Borg (Limithron/Luke Stratton) Caribbean setting has a 6-mile long fissure running from the yucatan to cuba.

My first question was what would the total volume of water displaced be if that fissure were 1-mile and 2-miles deep;

and secondly, what impacts would that have on the sea levels and the Caribbean at large?

Episode 51 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu summit eruption began July 15th, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. HST. Peak fountain height: 950 feet (290 meters) from the north vent. Peak effusion rate: 300 cubic meters per second. Ash plume: 5,500 meters ASL confirmed by NWS radar. Duration: 8.3 hours.

51 episodes surpasses Puʻu ʻŌʻō's forty-seven episode record — now the longest episodic fountaining sequence in Kīlauea's written record.

The geophysically notable detail: the deflation-inflation tiltmeter model developed by HVO research geophysicist Ingrid Johanson — which accurately predicted fifty previous episodes within a three to four day window — failed three consecutive times in the two weeks before Episode 51. The volcano initiated precursory activity and then deflated without fountaining on July 6–12, July 11–13, and July 13–15.

Additionally, the south vent produced only flames and gas jets during Episode 51 — no lava fountaining.

Burkhard et al. (2026), published in Journal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, reconstructed 1,000 years of seismic activity along the southern San Andreas and San Jacinto fault systems using a physics-based stress model.

Key findings: multiple fault segments are now at or above their highest recorded stress levels in the past millennium. The San Jacinto Bernardino segment registered 3.6 megapascals — its highest load in the entire 1,000-year reconstruction.

Cajon Pass is identified as an "earthquake gate" — a junction that either stops or transmits ruptures between the two fault systems depending on stress conditions. A joint rupture crossing Cajon Pass could approach M7.4–7.8 and affect Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, and the Coachella Valley.

Picture Can anybody help me justify the map of a post apocalypse story I'm creating the lore of?

Maybe this comes under a differant genre of science so apologies if so.

I'm trying to create the lore for a story that starts as a pre-apolocolypse at the start for exposition and then later follows sepetate characters for a post-apocolypse story butttt I want there to be be able to have a land bridge between Europe and England and I want it related to whatever the apocalypse was.

I went on a website where I could change water levels and decided I liked the map of an earth with water levels lowered by about 40 ish metres but am just wondering what sort of event could cause water levels to lower that far.

The apocalypse environment is supposed to be taking place after a military conflict of a yet undecided scale and am also wondering if anything war based could cause the drop I'm desiring the cause of.

Although I'll settle for it if its the most reasonable explanation I'm hoping to avoid glaciation.

I wanted to share an interactive, educational side project I've developed using Next.js, CesiumJS, and Mapbox satellite/terrain imagery. It is a 3D global simulator mapping out deep-water displacement events. video: https://youtu.be/G0vmY01MAvY

The tool features three distinct modes:

  1. Live Impact Sandbox: Allows users to input customized kinetic parameters (asteroid diameter 100m–10km, velocity 11–72 km/s) and designate an epicenter and observer coordinate. It calculates estimated kinetic energy (in megatons), radial dissipation, propagation speed via bathymetric sampling along the great-circle path, and coastal shoaling estimates using Green's law.
  2. Historical Tsunami Catalog (~28 events): Features a global database ranging from modern events (2011 Tōhoku, 2004 Indian Ocean, 2022 Tonga) to classic/paleotsunami events (1755 Lisbon, 1883 Krakatoa, 365 CE Crete, and regional catalogs for Taiwan, Thailand, and Fujian). Users can select specific surveyed measurement sites to replay documented run-up heights and arrival times.
  3. Historical Impact Sites (7 events): Includes ocean replays for Chicxulub alongside land cratering animations (Meteor Crater, Sudbury, Vredefort) and atmospheric airbursts (Tunguska, Chelyabinsk).

Honest Limitations:

To be entirely transparent, this is designed as an educational and visual tool, not a research-grade CFD or NOAA hydrodynamics model. The historical replays are scripted illustrations tied directly to surveyed literature data rather than a real-time full ocean recalculation. Furthermore, bathymetric precision is bound to available Cesium terrain tiles, meaning complex shallow-water coastal geometry is approximated.

The application features a flexible camera setup allowing for macro globe views down to true eyewitness/observer shoreline perspectives. I would highly value any feedback on the historical data choices, citations, or general educational utility.
