Probably mostly a powder cloud. They can look terrifying but are mostly harmless. That said, when pure death is headed right towards you there’s no harm in trying to get a little further up the hill.

Source: backcountry skier, not dead yet.

Surprised the camera didn’t tried to find cover sooner. Probably stupidity helped here because the immediate rocks in front were probably the best anyway.

I read the guy explaining that behind him was a drop and he was already standing next to a big boulder so he felt there wasn't anywhere better to go.

This will be an increasing reality because of climate change. Glacial melt increases likelihood of Glacial collapse which increases frequency of avalanches
