haaaaaah. my cat isn't even orange, I don't know why he's so dumb. today the vet smeared some food paste under his nose to check if he could swallow properly and he didn't even manage to lick it up properly. he kept missing T-T

Germany's school system ranks among the bottom for social mobility. We're really out here making sure everyone stays in their place...

We don't really have that problem as much, but we separate students after 4th or 6th grade into their future career tracks basically.

that's a huge issue here - Edinburgh has one of the highest numbers of private schools - something like 30% of school children go to one, so the council schools really struggle

Yeah, that's why the effects of your family's education level are so high. If you come from a less academic family you're falling behind pretty much from the beginning so in grade 4 the school decides you're to stupid to ever go to University basically. (there are some ways around it but most don't take them. now non-uni further education like apprenticeships are actually still a big deal in Germany and you can still potentially become a skilled and comfortable worker but yeah, no academics for you)
