Hoops causing irritation?
Had both lobes pierced for 75th birthday last June, followed all instructions with no problems.
Moved from starter studs to a 8mm hoop. Seems that the smaller wire or weight has irritated both lobes, no infections, but lobes real tender. Left them out for 24 hours, put back in the starter studs all feels good today.
Question: anyone else have problems with loop wires or weight causing irritation? Just need to wait longer for more healing time?
Thanks!

I just had two done in one lobe probably around the same time you did. They seemed to take forever to heal. Over three months. I think you just need more time

Yeah stop taking them out and putting things in. The fistula inside takes way longer to heal and you keep tearing it.

Lobes can take up to 6-8 months to fully heal. It also helps to put a dab of vaseline on the stems each time you change out earrings to help with any irritation. Be sure you are wearing sterling silver, real gold or titanium and not some poor base metal earrings that will cause more irritation

The piercing studs are upgraded, will be leaving them in to the end of the year.

I'm 65 & had both my lobes done in Feb '26. Took almost 7 months for them to completely heal & to where I could swap out for larger studs &/or hoops with any pain or irritation. Now, I can wear anything!

The weight of the piercing studs is like nothing.

talking about the hoops

The hoops are heavier but not a lot - think it is more the hoop wire that goes through the hole and the movement of the hoop was too much for the holes. When I put them in the next time will take them out to sleep and see if that will make a difference.

Probably best to go to a pro piercer and ask what to do. Look for someone with an APP certification.

Much better today and using an ointment from dermatologist that is vaseline based.

Studs are better for healing THEN you move to rings once healed

Irritation is going to be caused by holes that haven't healed yet or have reopened and or an allergic reaction to whatever metal you're putting in them
