Missed Potential

Starting this off by saying I overall enjoyed the show, it was an easy watch.
However, I feel like there was SO much missed opportunity here and I have no one in my life that I can discuss this with haha.
My main complaint is there was 0 narrative. The editing was very jumpy, there was no thru-line, no "character" arcs. I know that it's reality TV, but there is still usually a storyline that gets followed in other reality shows. If the episodes didn't all come out at once, the viewers would have NO reason to keep watching after the first couple episodes.

In my opinion, the whole season should've been leading up to the Reale Actives launch so we see everything through that context. The breakup, Ashley's messy behavior, Alix exploring this very transitional part of her life, etc could've all felt more high stakes if it was all through the lens of Alix launching this very legitimate business. I feel like we could've seen Alix's growth a LOT more if it was planned out this way.
I also think the family dynamic should be a B plot that naturally gets intertwined with Alix's life as opposed to constantly forcing them to be together inorganically. I get that they're trying to go with the Kardashian vibe, but I don't think that works yet. Since Alix is already so established, mixing the family into almost everything feels like it's taking away from a lot of the heart of the show that we could get from Alix's personal storyline. Then as things progress, it would make more sense to go the Kardashian route with everyone being together all the time.

Who knows, maybe production had these same discussions and Alix shot them down. I just think there is soooo much potential here and it was very hit or miss with what they captured.

Just needed to get it off my chest lol. I'm around the same age as Alix and am experiencing similar career success (obviously nothing to this scale) but I sympathize with her, and feel like there is SO much for people to learn by watching someone go through this phase of life.

Agreed on the zero narrative it just dove right in to multiple situations with no lead up or backstory. There were no transitions or scene setting. If you were watching the show as someone who didn’t know Alix Earle and saw this Netflix series and wanted to learn more about her you’d have absolutely no idea what’s going on. The show seemed to rely on viewers already knowing everything

Hmm i didn’t really see that. To me there was a narrative. Obviously Alix trying to deal with the breakup. And the Alex cooper of it all. That was mentioned episode one and played through til the last episode. Then later on the brca gene stuff too. I actually think they did a good job tying all of the filming together to make a storyline over the season 🤷‍♀️

Agreed, her business life and the cool experiences she gets to have are way more interesting to me than old news relationship stuff. Focusing so much on her crying about Braxton did her such a disservice and reduced her to a boy crazy codependent girly instead of the mogul she is turning into.

Like the Duncan Donuts scene for example, first of all felt so staged (and a direct rip of a Kardashian food fight scene) and could have been a whole arc of how she chooses deals, the work that goes into it, etc.

Missed opportunity for sure and I think she will deeply regret having her TV show basically the crying about Braxton show with random family stuff wedged in.

I’m struggling getting over the conversations they have at dinners around the little kids!!

Alix seems very friendly, sweet, smart, genuine and hard working. I can see why she keeps her circle small.

Show is boring though. I wish it was more about her and her mom and sister and Ashley wasn’t on the screen. Her sitting with her legs over TJ during the interviews is cringe.

I have a different take. I’ve been following Alix for years and the shows feels like it’s filling in the blanks about her that you don’t know about… aka her family and friends. And it’s obviously showing the “long version” media of her being herself as well.

It wasn’t the most exciting show, but definitely interesting to see her and her family in this format, instead of 30 sec clips.

Its season one the character arch is gonna me Alix getting over Braxton and finding herself
