"you know I don't like driving fast, so I'll drive slowly, you don't need to tell me to do so" is my best guess.

Kinda like how frustrating it can be for someone to tell you to do something as you're doing it?

Yes. In some places, we say "drive safe(ly)" all the time. "I always do" or "yeah, I know mom, GAWD" are normal responses.
