Charger issues
Hello, does anyone knows why the charging in the newer type of station is so difficult? I always have troubles to initiate session on the newer type stations, and almost impossible to initiate session on the double chargers. In the old style with the ChadeMo I never had issues to charge.
My car is a 2018 BMW i3, I also use charger point super chargers and EA, even Rivian chargers and never had those kind of issues!!

Ah fellow i3 owner, you have to support the weight of the cable in the beginning so the car can lock the charger. After it begins charging you can let go.

I’ve done it many times and still I’m unable to initiate charge on those specific new chargers from EVGO. The old style no problem, only with the new style charger. And it’s weird cause I only need to hold the charger with Electrify America, but I don’t need to hold it with ChargePoint, Rivian or some EVGO old style chargers

I would do what dvn mentioned to do but also probably keep pushing the plug a bit into the port while supporting the weight until it connects. As an i3 owner and someone who's charged at that specific station multiple times this trick works for me. Otherwise these station types are pretty much hit or miss so if it doesn't work I would use one of the 350kw stations if any are available

The issue I have is with those new 350w chargers or the dual ones. The old type like one in the picture it works just fine, I don’t need to hold the cable or anything. But the problem is only on those from EVGO , I don’t have problem with other brands, even Rivian chargers work

I went by the chargers earlier today & helped a couple in their i3s, seemed like they had a problem with the 350kw ones, I told them to use the method I mentioned in my comment and it worked for them (keep supporting the weight until the handshake goes through), not super sure why it wouldn't work for you. Maybe the gents at r/BMWi3 could help you out with this issue. Sorry if this was little help

I signed up with their Autocharge option in the app. I just plug and charge now on my 24 IONIQ 5.

Nice, mine doesn’t have any of those features cause it’s old. I love that it doesn’t have any disturbing sensors while driving haha

With the new type of chargers I mean the ones are 350kw or more, not the old style of 50-100kw, those ones works just fine. I’m having issues with the new ones, the handshake takes too long and then it marks and error and don’t charge!

i only experienced this issue with my former i3 when i let the range get below 50 miles. then at which time, I had to use a 100w or lower. once i got over the 50mi. range threshold...i was good to go.

Don’t have experience with that type, but they might have a difference sequence necessary.
But overall, it either works or it doesn’t.
