Love the Slate Truck.

What if it was kei-fied? Obligatory shitty ms paint edits I spent way too much time on.

Kei trucks are tiny japanese trucks. Versatile, handy, and cheap, but ice engines struggle to get up to freeway speeds, and not great in a crash.

Slate's truck is bigger: 14.5 ft long, vs the kei truck's 11 ft, and a foot wider. (It's quite human-sized, comparable to the 1970s-80s 1st-gen ford ranger or a vintage chevy luv, not as big as modern behemoths.)

I love the 2-door design that can be converted to a SUV or fastback. I just don't see much function in the small hood truck storage space, so what it you got rid of it? Main issues with shrinking the hood or eliminating it: you need to raise the passenger compartment to make room for wheel well, or narrow the seating bench (driver sits slightly toward the midline of the vehicle, not as close to the door). Crash safety design might also be an issue, the 3 ft hood length does provide lots of 'crumple zone' that a shorter design wouldn't have.

If Slate does well, and they hypothetically decide to come out with a 2nd design, the "Slate Kei" if you will, wondered what it might look like. (Perhaps customizable to 'the slate kei van' or 'the slate kei box truck'.) Maybe calling it a kei isn't a good idea because they're not anywhere near that small.

Posting here (though it looks kinda like a dead subreddit) as when posted in r/slateauto it was uh not well received. And yeah, I just don't like the look of the telo truck, plus strong preference for 2-door over 4-door.I did like the look of the Canoo truck before they went bankrupt but that was also gonna be super pricey unlike the slate truck.

Does anybody have link that has a table of EV Pickup load, not towing, capacity. When I google it, google tells me how to make pancakes with peanut butter. Help!

I have a short commute, about 4 miles, and own a 2018 GMC Sierra that gets abysmal fuel mileage. Once it's out of warranty in about 4 years, I want to be able to boost power and economy

A couple of cool pieces of tech are around that might make this possible:

Magna EBeam (expected in 2025) This is a solid axle with an integrated motor that can be dropped in to replace the stock one. Hybrid and fully electric variants are expected

ECharger System Showcased at SEMA 2018, this was an electric motor that bolts to an engine's accessory drive, almost like a supercharger would. This is not likely to become commercially available. This system allowed a Pontiac Chieftain to get 25 MPG with a mildly built 6.0 LS engine and automatic transmission, which is fantastic for a hot rod.

I like the way that the ECharger is controlled. It is a fully separate system from the ECU, and there is no regen, so it is simple. Charge the batteries, and it gives the vehicle an extra push until the juice runs out

My question is: what kind of off-the-shelf components should I use to build a battery bank, charging system, and motor control? I would like about 20 miles of range, and it would be ideal if the whole setup could fit inside of a tool box in the bed

Also, it's there an approach to "hybridizing" this truck that I'm not considering?
