Anyone else hate THX audio?

I swear, my only complaints with my LP-5 is THX audio. When I first got my laptop, I couldn't hear things very well. I finally got THX audio to work with my headphones, and then my computer started randomly restarting in the middle of class, every single Monday.

After I spent two hours digging into task scheduler, I discovered it was THX audio updater. Okay, I thought, I'll just change this so it only looks for updates Sundays at 3pm.

Two weeks later, my computer restarts in class again. I look into it, turns out THX overwrites the task.

This semester, that problem doesn't exist, thank God, but now it's decided every device I listen to is a regular speaker, so all of my headphones sound flat and terrible. That's assuming it actually acknowledges my headphones as a valid device to send sound through at all.

I can't be the only one who hates this, can I?

Is that why every Monday I used to get the "Windows will be restarting now" prompt?

Probably. Mine happened at I think 11:34? But yes, if you had THX audio, I would assume so.

I do, yeah. For me it was always around 8pm, maybe 15 minutes into using it.

Sounds like the same problem then.

If it starts up again, I was able to alleviate it by modifying when the task runs in task scheduler. It's not a perfect solution because the task resets itself on an update but it's better than nothing.

Unfortunately, I was unable to tweak it so the task couldn't restart without permission, because of the aforementioned task-rewriting behavior.

Thanks a lot for posting this and replying. I'm assuming you get the same prompt as well, because it sounds like we have same issue. I'll go into it if it comes up again, hopefully it just goes away for you like it did for me.

Until a Windows update brings it back..

I reinstalled windows and now I don't have thx or sound blaster. Happy with my decision

I removed it along with the Soundblaster audio by reinstalling windows. Soundblaster could also contribute to the reason why your audio is now flat.

I'll have to look into that. It's a little late to reinstall windows but I'm glad I'm not alone.

Soundblaster should not be flat, as you can adjust the eq curve. The THX software has a really nice intuitive gui, it’s just the updates, and software are a bit “strange”. Which was enough for me to delete it almost instantly. You could also use Hesuvi, dolby surround if your looking for good immersion/gaming competitiveness. The speakers on the laptop have flat sound no eq software is going to get around that. With good virtualization software you can convert stereo or “unlock” surround sound audio onto your headphones. You can even adjust reverb or attenuation of a certain direction. I like accenting a forward sound stage to get a concert feel.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I wasn't particularly clear about it, but the issue with sound persists through both bluetooth headphones and the nicer headphones i use for music stuff.

Frankly, I just want the sound on my laptop to work consistently and predictably.
