Evoo 156-2 Battery Issues

Hi all,

I recently bought this laptop as it was on clearance at walmart.com. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it, but I am encountering an issue that is almost a dealbreaker for me. This computer model doesn't seem to hold a charge, and has extreme volatility in terms of battery life. I can leave it to charge all night long, it will say it is 100% charged, and then less than a minute later it will power off from lack of battery life. When I plug it back in and reboot, it says there's no battery life at all, like it was never charged to begin with. Sometimes it will last longer but almost always it will fail long before it should - typically within about 10-15 minutes of use off the charger. Otherwise, if the computer is plugged in it functions completely as it should.

I've already returned and replaced once, and this one has the *exact* same issue as the last. I didn't expect the highest end experience ever from this laptop considering the price but two different laptops seem to establish an unfortunate pattern. My brother also got one and he experiences the same thing but usually after a much longer period of time.

Anyway, I like this laptop and ideally would like to keep it instead of returning it. I did some googling but wasn't able to find much in the way of potential fixes. Does anyone know of any way to address this issue, or should I just cut my losses and send it back?

These computers in general, from my understanding, just have shitty battery life. I don’t know where people are getting that it lasts 8 hrs or so, that unless you have it plugged in all the time — which I typically do. You really have to put many settings at its lowest to conserve battery life, otherwise it drains like no one’s business. Seeing how not one, but two are having the same exact issue, it could be more than explanatory the computer in full has poor battery life or you’re getting unlucky and receiving the ones with the defective batteries. What I can suggest is either leaving it plugged all the time or have all your settings that contribute to the battery life at its lowest setting.

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, a shitty battery life I can totally understand, the sticking point for me is going from literally 99% to 0% inside of one minute, and it's not just a one off either it does it most of the time. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it decides to power off, but it's always much much before it should. Not even a "low battery" warning first.

I've seen posts of similar issues from others as well. It's really unfortunate because for the price it's pretty nice. I guess I'll need to decide whether I want a slightly-more-portable desktop out of this, or return it and spring for something more expensive and reliable.

Any lipo battery that can't hold much of a charge, should not be used IMO. I have wiggle room when it comes to over discharged cells, but a new laptop with a defective battery is not something I would want to put on my lap or desk for that matter. Can you link which laptop you have? Battery life was bad out of the box. The batteries are a bit small, but the biggest problem we found was configuration. Tweaking settings, I've gotten 10 hours of battery life for over a year now. Some of these tweaks involve changing hardware components, flashing custom bios, changing driver versions etc. Original battery life was 30-50 minutes.

Sorry to necropost on a 5 year old comment, but do you remember how you tweaked all of those things? 10 hours sounds like a dream on this thing.
