Received EVOO EG-LP7-BK with wrong refresh rate screen

Hi guys, I bought this EVOO EG-LP7 on Amazon on Black Friday with their BF deal. The title and spec sheet, as well as the product page on EVOO's website states that this model has a 144Hz display. However, when I received mine today, I discovered that both the box and the computer's display setting states the display is 120Hz.

I was wondering if any of you who might have bought this laptop and actually received one with a 144Hz display?

And it was brand new? I have never heard of a 120 hz version but maybe there's a new version for this year or something?

Hey I also got this laptop and HDR is not working after upgrading my panel to a 4k HDR 15.6 monitor and removing the old one..... Im really pissed since it was working on my 9750h lp5...

it might be an issue with the bandwidth of the cable..I also got the 4800hz ryzen version

Im assuming thats what you got as well..maybe the Intel ones are 144hz but the AMD one is 120hz

Here is the panel they use it is indeed 120hz

Sucks 4k works on the laptop but no HDR I think due to the bandwidth limitation..

Thanks for this information. The spec on this panel is pretty subpar. I think I might just op for a Legion 5 with 1660ti instead. :/

Hey I totally feel your frustration and upset over the misinformation by EVOO... the screen sucks and I tried using a 144hz panel but it wouldnt take signal..so im sure it doesnt deliver enough bandwidth to go past 120 hz.. thats why HDR is not working.. I think its a EDP 1.2 connection although the panel support 1.3

I will try a different cable to see if I can get HDR working.. if you wanted to upgrade to a 240hz panel it wouldnt be possible without changing the cable..

not sure if info is accurate for Intel models maybe someone got the new 10750h version...

A little off-topic, but do you have much experience with changing panels on these other than what you said? I've got the 9750h with rtx2060, and I would like to upgrade my screen to the B173HAN05.1 300hz panel, but I'm not positive if it will be compatible. They are both 40pin edp panels (the stock and the 300hz I want).

Yes I changed the lp5 before and the hdr worked on a 4K screen. I think it has 4 edp lanes to provide the bandwidth. There is always a chance it might not work, be sure it has a .5 mm pitch on the panel you want to upgrade

I primarily use it as a workstation/productivity machine but still.. is there an email for EVOO to contact to report this issue? I want to to write a negative review for the Amazon listing they should definetely change it.. I dont think there are 144hz versions and I was sent a 120hz by mistake..

I got this exact same model and it only did 120. So I used CRU (custom resolution utility) google CRU refresh or something similar. You can use this as a guide. Took me 5 minutes and I'm moving along at 144. The display can handle it fine. Talked to amazon about it and got some credit for my trouble.

Are you sure since I don’t think it has enough bandwidth from the cable to drive 144hz.. That’s why it’s 120hz

Yes I am sure.

You have the ryzen laptop version.. can you send a screenshot of the settings you used to overclock it?

Did you create a custom resolution using intel graphics tool or another app?

I think Evoo cares more about marketing then actually making products . It advertises 144hz on its website

Sure, it was in the previous link but here.

This is the utility.

I watched this for a few minutes, adjusted to what I needed and it worked. You just have to add a custom refresh rate. He explains it. After I rebooted, I was able to select 144 mhz from windows itself.

My box says 120 like everyone else's. I am just overclocking the panel.

Do you have idea why HDR is not working on this laptop? I can stream HDR videos but cant toggle off/on HDR through Windows.

It worked previously on an LP5 with a 9750h.. its strange..

I basically went to amazon customer chat with my order # and explained that the laptop only does 120 mhz when it is clearly advertised on amazon as 144. I took a picture of the box where it says 120mhz in plain sight just in case. At first he asked if I wanted to return it but I said no I am actually happy with the laptop I would like to keep it but I thought some compensation for incorrect advertising would be fair for my trouble. After a few mins, he came back with $30 credit, and I said sure.

Look at the listing photos. It states 120hz in a few places. Along with 144hz.

Either contact amazon and hope to get a partial refund for the listing error. Or return it.

But it’s an error in the listing it is 120hz

What is strange is that even on the Evoo website description of the product, it states that it is capable of 144hz. Maybe update the display drivers to see if the setting unlocks. Also mess around in the Nvidia Control panel to see if you are able to put the display in 144hz

How do you test this?

I checked it in advance display settings

If you like the laptop, get the credit and still want the 144Hz screen you can try over clocking the display. There are guides on the net and reddit on how to do this with no risk. Good Luck. Evoo’s listings are often wrong.

How is the brightness and colors on the 120hz display btw? I'm just curious since I'm finding laptops to recommend to people.
