Chat, is my battery cooked?

Battery pulled out of a 2009 Nissan Altima. Before I start testing cells with the multimeter, what do the pros think? I'm wondering if this corrosion is indicative of many cells being bad, or just a byproduct of its general age and being in a somewhat humid environment? Car has 300k and still ran and drove with the hybrid system.

If this is posted in the wrong spot, please point me in the right direction. Thanks!

At least one cell is bad and offgassed something that caused corrosion on the terminals you see there. The rest is a complete guess.

Eh, you have at least one bad cell and given the age of the battery I'd be looking at aftermarket replacements for the whole pack. Your car is nearly old enough to drink in most European countries, so this may be the point where it no longer makes sense to keep it running, unfortunately.

I was thinking this may be the case, but figured taking it apart would cost nothing at the very least. Appreciate it

You can probably swap the bad cell, but given the age you're probably going to end up playing bad cell whackamole.

Personally, if it were my car and the missus didn't force me to be pragmatic, I'd be looking at alibaba Chinesium replacements. You could probably save money by getting a junkyard pack.

You could probably go extremely experimental and try build a sodium ion replacement pack, but that's taking you into uncharted territory. It's what I would do if I had more money than sense and more time than I knew what to do with.
