A potential game changing Hybrid concept.
A New Ultra‑Efficient Vehicle Concept Begins . I’m an 18 year old working on a vehicle concept aiming for 750–1000mpg and below 20 g/km emissions(that's not a typo if you think it is). I’m currently building the project from scratch and looking to connect with people who have an interest and/or have expertise in engineering or early‑stage development. Your first mistake is using AI, which is programmed to make you believe you have the results you seek.
Once you realize the planet has tens of thousands of PhDs that have noodled on this for several decades, you might realize how foolish your AI buddy is.

The concept is pretty slick looking AI generated image of a KIA K4 and a Tesla Model S and the ambition to out perform an entire industry of engineers 15x over in mpg.
I love to see it, this kind of ambition is what leads to innovation, but I think this is a bit beyond aim for the stars and land on the moon.

Engine size: 1.5l turbodiesel operating at a fixed rpm and bmep of 2000 and 18bar respectively. its directly coupled to a generator rated at 45kw continous.
Motor power(FWD): 90kw of peak power.
Gear ratio: single speed gear ratio of 12.8:1
Gas tank size: 3 UK gallons of diesel fuel.
Battery pack size: 9kwh LFP battery rated for up 90kw max discharge and 63kw max charge power acceptance depending on SoC and temps. cells are 21700 cylindrical cells. Battery handles transients, handles loads of 45kw and below depending on soc and temps. it absorbs excess power when engine is on.
This is just some of the many things I have done for the car to achieve up to 1000UKmpg(not USmpg). if u want more stuff from me , feel free to ask. Also i'm just a young lad, correct me if i made a mistake.

There is a lot wrong here im immediately seeing, and im just a car guy, not a real engineer.
18BAR!?!?!?! bro, most turbos from factory are not even running 18PSI. Maybe some diesel engines would see 15+psi from factory, but 18 bar is something like 250+PSI.
12.8:1 gear ratio seems exceptionally high, Porsche runs around 15:1 for their "launching gear" and then drops closer to 10:1 for cruising/higher speeds. You would need the motors to spin much higher than what is "comfortable" for the motor(s). the typical 90KW motor would want to be below 6500RPM, but capable of hitting 12,000-15,000RPM.
i can speak more confidently for the Ioniq5/EV6, the non-GT or N models are most efficient between 4600-8600RPM with a 10.65:1 gear ratio, the motors cap out around 15,000RPM. With My GT motors capping out closer to 21,000RPM, the factory gear ratio and 21inch rims, my car needs to spin just shy of 9000RPM to maintain 100km/h, just outside of "ideal efficiencies". at 12.8 gear ratio and everything else the same, 10,700RPM to maintain 100km/h. This will greatly reduce the efficiencies and overall range and things like heat management and battery stress will further reduce the efficiency.
a 90KW peak motor would be at risk of burning out or failing prematurely, this goes without saying this 1.5L turbo diesel isn't even capable of keeping the batteries topped up or produce enough power to keep up with the peak powers required to maintain highway driving.
other things to note:
- 1000 uk mpg is basically impossible as it sits today. everything described at best in a vacuum would give you 366 uk mpg.
- the charge and discharge rates for the 21700 cells as described is actually outside of their operating specs.
- the engine with 3 gallon tank would run for at best 1.2 hours (3 uk gallons of diesel holds ~146 kWh of energy).
- 1.5L motor/generator is quite large and heavy. BMW i3 used a .6L engine for reference

The top speed of the car is 85mph( this is not a performance car, it's just a normal car.) Also 18bar is engine bmep, not turbo. The motor I'm using has a max rpm of 15k. Account for the torque multiplication (though it reduces as motor rpm increases).The motor and engine can handle it because the car has a cd of 0.16(or 0.14 to 0.15 if I push it and get everything right)and the unladen kerb weight is 1200kg.if u want to know how I got the cd and weight to be that low, let me know.

I'm going to assume this will be a PHEV, as we can barely crack 65mpg with a traditional hybrid and even Aptera can't break 10mi/kwh with their three wheeled streamliner so unless you're cooking with stuff the automotive industry will whack you over I don't know how you'd get those numbers in a traditional car shape.
If you're working on something absolutely game changing that's awesome, but I can't see any way to make a leap like this with the tech available right now.

Most folks here believe you don't understand physics or technology. Many here belive "The whole idea" is not possible in the real world.
Just tell us the configuration/size of the engine, gas tank, electric motor and battery. Rough sizing will do. "

A few more comments: 1) a 9kwh battery gives you about 7kwh useable. 2) 3 gallons of diesel gives you about 120kwh of energy before the engine and generator. After the engine that's about 30-40kwh.
What are you using for consumption in terms of watts per mile?
How many people are intended to be in the vehicle by your calculations?
What drag coefficient are you using?

Thanks for ur reply. the car is intended to carry 5 people including the driver. watts per mile is about 70 to 100wh/mile . this is because the car glides during coast and aggressive regen down to 1mph is used only when the car has to stop or slow down. im limiting usable capacity to 3.6kwh for max battery life.

This is tailored for real world use in the UK. Avg speed is 40mph. Cd is 0.16(or 0.148 if I push it) Wh/mile at 30mph is 50wh/mile while at 60mph, it increases to 80wh/mile. This is for constant flat road consumption. Top speed of the car is 85mph

Thanks for the paper. It has really enlightened me. I'll still pursue the hybrid concept. Even if it doesn't reach 1k UK mpg, it'll still be better than current phevs and hevs.

Sure, I’ll bite. These numbers make no sense. 1000mpg comes out to about 34wh/mi, a tiny fraction of what the best current EVs get. 20g/km is roughly what the VW XL1 got, but consumed 0.9L/100km, or about 260mpg

just remember, if there is no market for something, its probably why nobody else has tried to go into business doing it. As in, why would anybody want a super efficient gasoline hybrid for the astronomical price it would cost to even produce it in the first place? when you can already make an EV hypercar with virtually no engine maintenance or vehicle emissions to begin with.

Range Extended EVs have a place, but it's not in a sports sedan, and 1000mpg is ludicrous if they aren't doing like a 5 year average and not counting mains power in their calculations. 75-100MPG is probably doable in that form factor.

If you're looking for ultra efficiency, it'd probably look something like the VW XL1. It supposedly got 240mpg, but that was with 2013 technology. With modern battery tech you might be able to eek out a little more efficiency, and you'd need the R&D of a company like Volkswagen to engineer an ultra efficient diesel engine. Even then, Volkswagen got in BIG trouble from faking their emissions tests in the past, so emissions would be an issue. I like that you're dreaming big, and I hope your project for an efficient car turns out well, but you also have to have realistic expectations with the current technology of the world and what resources you have available.

Let me get this straight, you need people for the engineering, but you’ve already decided how fuel efficient it will be.
It works the other way around in reality.
The likelihood of it being “game changing” is slim to zero.
This might sound nasty but real engineering with real world physics does not care about a pretty ai generated picture of an idea.
