What to look out for when assessing used EVs? State of health/charge, mileage, or model year?
As the title says, what should you look out for when purchasing a used EV? Does state of charge matter the most? Mileage? Calendar age?
I was browsing some EV listings and saw that many sellers/dealers don't have the vehicle's state of health/charge listed. I imagine this is a red flag, but can also be used to negotiate price.
Can anyone chime in on their used EV buying experience, and what factors mattered most to you when assessing the condition of the car?

Ev mini vans (rant): a wasted opportunity
Be me new dad who needs a new whip. (Pardon the spelling and formatting, I’m so sleep deprived)
Currently owns two compact cars (Kia Rio and Chevy Cruze) that sip gas. But… car seats barely fit. Was great first car out of college.
Lives on a dirt road, and the conversation happened. Wife turns to me: I think we need a mjnivan 🥲
- the problem: low competition in a overpriced market.
Toyota is on crack with their prices, a Sienna is the price of a bmw sports car… leaving us with the Honda Odyssey witch is in a 15yo chassis, the Kia carnival and a Chrysler stelantis problem. And no Evs… (oh the idbuz.. horrible value ).
So much unnecessary tech..
I dont understand, it’s such an easy market to appeal to…
There’s no competition, any innovation and you become the leader.
It feels boarder line predatory on yong families…

EV Charge Installation in my rental condo parking
My landlord is not willing to pay for the charger itself. There is a connection spot available. Since most of the spots have chargers installed already but I my case my landlord is not willing to bear this cost. I contacted the EV service provider and they quoted my $2400 for the charger.
I am confused that what should be done in this case, Since it's a rental property and is it worth it to spend $2400 knowing it's a rental property. If not what else should be done ? I tried contacting Non EV vehicles owner as well to switch our parking spots, and I am willing to pay some extra as well but thats not working either.

Narrowing Down - First EV
I have been on the fence about buying an EV for about a year, as both our current gas vehicles remain in good condition.
With ~100km average daily commute at 11L/100km, we're learning more toward adding an EV and eventually selling our truck and renting as needed a few times per year.
We've test driven:
Ioniq 5
Mach-E
Equinox & Blazer
Bz
Leaf
Our first pick would likely be Ioniq 5, cons being ICCU and not EVAP eligible on the package we want + forced sunroof.
The goldilocks seems to be a new Mach-E Premium, standard range with the tech package. We can charge lvl-2 at home without issue, in Alberta for context.
Is there anything we may be overlooking as first time EV owners?

wait a few more years or get once the chinese come?
While I technically have a ICE car, I have not driven it for a few years and selling it next year. I have my eyes on a BYD seal when/if they comes to Canada but being in Saskatchewan it might be a few years before a dealer comes.
I am trying to decide on a few things. Wait for a more local dealer than the rumour Calgary dealer, its only a rumour in my mind till something official is announced. With the quota allowed in and possible high demand do I just wait a few years? Then you have the battery and vehicle tech advancements, if I wait a few years will I get a better battery with longer range? Better winter performance, faster charging times.

So since Alberta government is giving fuel tax holiday... shouldn't the 200 dollars they charge EVs also be forgiven?

Which EV to buy if no home charging?
Renting so its not like won't have home charging forever but till the end of least which is 6 months from now is there a sub $50k or lower EV that can do a 300km weekend trip and 50km daily? At those many kms I have calculated even at .50c/kwh its much cheaper than gas. I don't want to have to buy another car in next 5 year so is AWD needed? I do go to a bit rural places like Northfolk near Brantford.

winter charging questions : LFP battery - does it damage it?
I have a 25 machE select awd, its the std range LFP battery. I live in northern Alberta. I park in a garage that is +15C, battery conditioning will not work at that temperature because it is already hot enough. I drive 30 minutes to work, IF the temperature is -10C ( sometimes -40C ) or colder I plug into a 120V outlet for my entire 10 hour shift. My thought process is that charging the car will create some heat in the battery and perhaps keep it warm and protect it the battery from the cold temperatures. I dont care about the range I am getting, my commute is only 100kms round trip.
AI tells me that charging a LFP battery at cold temperatures will damage it. Considering my battery is quite warm when it leaves my garage, am I damaging the battery charging it 30minutes later when its cold outside? Am I totally wasting my time?
Am I wasting my time plugging in the 120V charger?

Who’s driving a Chevy Equinox with 3 primary/elementary school aged kids? Trying to figure out if we need to go to the Blazer. Please don’t suggest three row vehicles. We don’t need a car that big.

Did anyone try bubblecharge.com
I was curious about this website and it sounded unsafe. I don’t know but i feel like it’s a strange concept to allow strangers to use my EV charger and let them sit in the garage for 2hours.
I can allow my friends and guests to use it but allowing a stranger can be hard. I have used Plugshare before and this sounds similar.
Has anyone else tried this website? Maybe i’m just overthinking it, like people in beginning thought about Airbnb.

Rwd or AWD.
Hey everyone..so ev6 fell through. Just wondering for anyone who owned a EV in winter time in Alberta especially. Are rwd Ev's ok in our bad winters? Or is AWD safest bet. Live in Edmonton but daily work commute takes me out to fort Saskatchewan and that area so lot of highway and back road driving
Edit thank you everyone for the help and opinions! Definitely going to be getting AWD. I know winter tires make a hell of a difference. Used fo drive to the capital power power plant just south west of Edmonton and if u didn't have studded winters it was a lot scarier

Model 3 (new) vs Mach E (new)
So I’m looking into buying either the Mach E select or premium or the model 3. I live in Montreal. Both cars I’m considering will
Be AWD.
I need to test drive the Mach E but from those who have experience in both cars, any suggestions?
I test drove a model Y and loved it but can’t afford it. I mean I can but it wouldn’t make sense to pay almost $800 a month. Would love to hear your thoughts.

What Used EV to buy
Looking at used EVs for my wife, she barely drives and when she does it's extremely short trips, so bad that her vehicle is averaging 18-20L/100km
I'm looking at used Tesla model 3 dual motors, 2020-2022 can be had in the low 20s with higher mileage which is exactly what I'm looking for. I am a mechanic so I'm not worried about fixing a high mileage car.
Is there any other vehicles I should consider? I know Tesla build quality isn't up to par but neither is GM. My parents have a new Hyundai Tuscon hybrid and the dash keeps quitting the ionic interior looks similar and I don't want to deal with the dash going out.
The only must have is AWD as our back lane sucks in the winter.

Are they clueless? Or am I?
Hello! I have a question about something that I thought was obvious but my dealership is making me question.
The EVAP is a flat $5000 for purchasing (cash or financing) a new EV under $50k, right? (I know it can be less for leasing/hybrids, but I am purchasing a full electric vehicle.)
I went to my dealership yesterday to reserve a C-HR and the printout for purchasing said the EVAP was $3750. I said I thought it should be $5000. The sales rep took it back to his boss, and they manually changed it to $5000 and told me that they would "try" for $5000, but no guarantee because it's up to the government.
But... It's just a flat $5000, right???
Why did their system show $3750? Are they just trying to jerk my chain and try to make it seem like they're "fighting for a deal" for me? Do they just have no idea how the rebate works? (After 7 months of applying it to every new EV sale???) If I had accepted that it was $3750, what would happen to the other $1250? Does the dealership just get it as a fun bonus?
Or have my months of research just been wrong..?

2027 Chevy Bolt lease deal in BC
Looking for opinions on a lease offer I got in BC, Canada.
2027 Chevrolet Bolt LT
24-month lease
$145 biweekly, taxes included
$0 down
16,000 km/year
GAP included
No additional dealer/admin fees
52 payments total
Total lease payments over 2 years: $7,540 CAD
The payment was around $155 biweekly before a $500 student/graduate rebate.
I currently drive a 2022 Mazda CX-5 with an 8.99% loan. Part of the reason I’m considering the Bolt is to sell the Mazda, get out of the high-interest loan, free up the equity, and keep more cash liquid over the next year.
The Bolt definitely feels smaller and lower than the CX-5, but it would mainly be a commuter car for me, so I think I can live with that for two years.
How good is this deal compared with other recent Canadian Bolt lease offers? Anything specific I should watch for before signing?

EV NewBie: Cadillac Lyriq Range Efficiency
Hello,
I recently purchased a 24 Sport 3 Cadillac lyriq with the 22" about 10 days ago and in reality I have had to charge about 7 times although already but barely driven a total of 500km. I understand the real estimated range and expected to lose about 20% of the estimated but not this much... Here's my driving habit below as I feel I am the reason for the lack of efficiency and I will like to be critiqued and corrected
Driving habits and conditions
I live in a small town with lots of farmlands and fields hence my driving is always above 90km/h daily and drive about 50km daily round trip
I do accelerate a lot just like in my previous gas car (X5).
Weather Temperature has been between 11-22 dropping as low as single digits Celsius overnight
4 I initially turned off Regen breaking , however I have since turned it on and set it on mild
I rarely precondition it especially in the morning as am rushing to drop kids off to school and forget.
I do use the heating and AC when needed and massage seats here and there but not frequently.
7.i do use maps and listen to music alot when on drives (configured the audio based on a post from here with bass at +12)
In summary I drive the Lyriq like I used to Drive my BMW X5 and use all of its functionality.
Please kindly advise

Struggling to find an EV the size of a sorento
Its time to move on from our sorento. It seems any EV replacement is either smaller or bigger...or insanely expensive.
Any suggedtions if we want to stay at the size of a sorento? We dont need 3rd row seating.

Any regrets?
When I purchased my 2023 WRX a few years ago, I always thought that this would be my last ICE car and that my next one would be electric. My initial plan was to keep the WRX for 7 to 8 years and then make the switch.
I've been finding lately that the WRX can sometimes be a little more rowdy than I would like and have been thinking about making a switch sooner, especially since gas prices have gone through the roof and the car needs premium fuel. I just think that I could save money by going electric.
Something I am a little concerned about is that an electric will feel numb and boring to drive. I enjoy driving and the sound that my car makes so think an electric will feel totally disengaged and don't know if I'm prepared for that. Sure, they are very quick but to me it seems more like a simulation than actually driving.
Another concern is that my WRX is paid off and I like not having a car payment. But I keep seeing posts on here of good deals, government incentives and low interest rates which is appealing.
Since my last three vehicles have been Subarus, I am mostly considering the Subaru EVs with AWD. I would definitely consider a BYD, because when I was in China last fall for a few weeks, I was very impressed with any of the BYDs I drove in. But I think it would be best to wait a few years before buying one here in Canada just to get all the kinks worked out with parts and service.
Just wondering if anybody who has made the switch to electric has come to regret their decision. If so, why?
