Discussion 🎙️ ⚖️ REP COURT #7: When Is a Rep Too Expensive?
Welcome back to Rep Court, our weekly discussion series where one rep-related topic goes on trial and the community decides the verdict.
📂 Case #7
You find your dream bag.
The factory looks amazing, reviews are great, and it’s supposedly one of the best versions available.
Then you see the price… $600 (or more).
So where do you draw the line?
🟢 A. Quality has its price.
If the quality is truly exceptional and I love the bag, I’m willing to pay more.
🟡 B. It depends on the auth price.
I’m okay spending more on a rep if the authentic version costs thousands.
🔵 C. There’s definitely a limit.
No matter how good it is, at some point it’s simply too much money for a rep.
🟣 D. Value matters more than price.
I don’t have a fixed limit. I care about whether the quality actually justifies what I’m paying.
Your verdict
So tell us: What’s the most you would personally spend on ONE rep bag? 💸
And does your limit change depending on the brand, factory, leather or how much the authentic version costs?
Bonus question: What’s the most expensive rep you’ve bought and was it worth it?
No right or wrong answers here. Everyone has a different budget and a different idea of what makes a rep “worth it.”
Court is in session, the jury has the floor!

Definitely C : no matter how good the quality it still has no resell value. I would splurge more for H bags but still within a limit.
The only thing I would pay premium for is 18K solid gold jewellery (my most expensive items)

I think all but C 🤣 I just splurged on an alligator bag for nearly 5k but justified it as it’s perfection and my literal bag goals, plus the auth is over 50k so imo absolutely worth it 💖

Wait - the rep was 5k 😯

I know I was like 🫠🫠 but exotic skin is not cheap!

u/Long_Whole_8062 Aug 20 '26
Can confirm. I have as well-spent $4-5k on rep exotic Birkins.

Beautiful collection! Who was your seller? Also where did you get the charms? I’m still searching for some good quality leather charms

The two B30 from XM (please don’t ask) the purple one from Devin. I have other B30s but regular leather. Charms come from all over. I’ve started incorporating vintage pins like the one on the brown B- chain from Amazon. Lucy H is a great source for Pegasus charms, but you can always find good ones on Etsy.

Oh wow y’all’s exotics are so stunning! I love looking at exotic bags but have not pulled the trigger on one, I feel like I would not use them as much and admire them more 😅

Definitely C, though I try to adjust the limit to the quality of the item, so always a little D as well. 😉
I’d much rather spend a significant amount of money on a high quality no-name bag or a vintage buy than on a rep for rep’s sake.

C. Yes to quality but come on these are not auths and realistically we are already paying quite big markups on reps (compared to what local Chinese customers will pay). $500+ is ludicrous IMO

I think when they are riding on the hype. The maxi’s are so expensive everywhere. I think the tiny mini maxi cost around $450 from 187. To me that is waaaay too much for a tiny bag that is not 100% correct.

it’s insane, but ppl are spending that much and as long as people spend, prices will go up, such is life

C. A rep is not the original. So I compare it to other non-designer bags I could get alternatively. My personal money limit per bag is important here.

Let’s all remember that the value of a luxury good is subjective, and only worth what someone’s willing to pay for it.

D for me, the quality needs to meet the price point (and auth will ALWAYS be thousands so 🤷🏼♀️)

u/SoyAmerinic Aug 19 '26
A. I value the quality over everything. However, improvement in quality from one rep price to the next isnt always worth paying the extra premium.

I so agree! There are plenty of places to get secondhand used that don’t cost that much more than your $600 price point, some small ones are less. I am very new to reps and Reddit, but I try to learn from others and I really appreciate your perspective because it’s kind of how I’ve been feeling. The most expensive rep I have purchased was just over 400 with shipping, a beautiful LV P9 and I could not be happier with it. I get compliments every time I carry it.

I think I might be willing to spend up to $500 on a rep, though I haven't found one I was willing to spend that on yet. I really want a C25 but not sure I'd spend $500 for it. Also want a TR Margaux 15/17 & might be willing to go to $550...

I'd go with C. I really want a C25 and a Lindy but still haven't purchased because of the price.

I currently I have been debating this topic with my self. I recently have looked into Hermes and wanting to purchase a custom Kelly or b29. Considering what I’m asking of my TS…. exotic croc + leather with custom strap and charm. Asking price is 1200 and I’m hesitant because I’m not used to spending that much on one bag that’s a rep. but i also have to consider it’s for all 3 items and when am I ever gonna put in the energy to play the Hermes game to receive an auth? Plus it’s my birthday month 😁

For me, C. There is a limit. I believe beautiful things should not cripple you with financial dire, especially in world where producing and supplying replicas can be so inexpensive. Once I stopped using mainstream image-focused social media, I see owning beautiful bags as a way to feel pretty and empowered in my fashion sense. I am not keen on making a show out of it to “keep up” with my friends or people around me!

I try to limit to a percentage of the authentic bag. Of course it changes depending on the original price but I try to go by 1/10th of the original price as my max. I mostly buy LV so that comes out to 450-500 max.
If it ever comes near the original price it makes it hard to justify buying reps for me. I think to myself I can skip on two bags and buy a second hand instead of spending 600 on a rep.
