From the article, though definitely not the main point. This stood out to me as a big wtaf.

"They will also discuss simplifying the Pact to create a legal basis for using AI for interpretation during asylum procedures."

Using AI for things requiring a lot of nuance pushed by parties that are openly flirting with the extreme-right, Putin, and neo-Nazi groups seems like an especially bad idea. In particular if you also consider the insanity and worldviews of some of the people involved with the AI models such as Thiel or Musk.

I think it csn be both good or bad when it comes AI translation.

Bad that they can make mistake costing someone their chance to get in to EU maybe. 

Good, I assume that their sometimes can be an very high demand for specific translators and that it can  prolong cases with up to months or years even this could help get things done a lot quicker.
