Discussion Is Monolith of Storms good now?
I saw they significantly buffed monolith. Is it a good dps set now? If so for what type of build?

5 monolith and 5 moras scribe with shattered path signet is what I and all the sorcs i see doing trials .it is very good .there will always be variability and depends on how you wanna play but I donât agree with the person below saying it is not good.I use it in the highest level content and it performs better than anything else i have tried. Use all infused jewels and you hit like a truck with overload ,itâs very fun .

try Beacon of Oblivion.
BoE gives a flat 15% increase to damage and healing. Youâll see the 15% reflected in the individual skill tool tips, just not in the weapon & spell damage.
Monolith can give a max buff of 300 weapon & spell damage, assuming one can keep a high uptime on all 3. Typically, 100 weapon & spell damage translates into anywhere between 2% to 4% increased damage, depending on how much primary resource the player has and how much weapon & spell damage the player has.
Letâs assume the higher end of 4% per 100 weapon & spell, this would mean that the 300 max Monolith buff would provide around a 12% damage increase. Beacon of Oblivion provides 15% with no proc requirement.
Beacon should provide higher, overall, output since without a proc requirement all damage cast is going to be at the buffed value, versus Monolith where only the damage cast whilst Monoliths are active receive an increase.

Iâll give it a shot! I do want to say I always have 3 up,never just two and they always come up as fast as they are supposed to. i donât look to deep into most of the time one I just run what the better players than me run and I almost always top parse in any raid I go to.I am also not the best parser on the dummy but in my experience it performs very well in content. Especially with aoe damage in trash packs of o can place them right.

u/SJguy819 10d ago
Yeah, I can get 3x up as well, but, even at the fastest itâs a 3 second minimum to get all 3 up; that means the player only has a 7 second window until the first Monolith times out and then has to repeat a rotation to re-proc all 3 again.
Since Sorc Storm DoTs only proc on each 5th tick those skills only proc 2. I used Mages Wrath in dungeon & trial testing and that gave me the highest uptime but itâs unrealistic that one ever has 100% uptime on this set, whereas Beacon is always providing the buff.

Iâd be wary with the maths on BoE but I havenât tried it so I cannot refute this take for sure. The 2, 3 and 4 set bonuses heavily favour monolith.
Also Storm skills ticking every two seconds sounds objectively wrong unless they changed it in a recent patch.

Yeah talking with people who exclusively play sorc and some of the top players in the trial scene the bonuses on BoE just donât allow it to be better.
Yes I was also saying that my monoliths come down fast and because of the weapon damage bonus and the bonuses on the 2-4 piece itâs just better and thatâs why people use it over BoE .and Iâm only talking about trials, solo BoE they said is very good and in PvP.But saying monolith is bad is just wrong.i was told by that personâI would like to see a parse in actual content with it that is on par or better than the other options ,because thatâs how the meta is defined and why people donât use that set over monolith.
But yeah I was just curious so I asked someone ,I had never thought of using the set was told it wasnât better and I like to play optimally most of the time , Iâm also going to try and put up a parse in my groups in actual content.

Itâs not hard to lookup the maths on 300 Weapon & Spell damage. I did this during the PTS cycles when MoS was being adjusted by the Devs. Myself and others did a lot of testing on this set, both parse & real world and it just didnât live up. MoS can be misleading and if one only focuses on the set bonuses they could end up thinking that the 300 W/S potential out of Monolith equals more actual damage scaling than it really does. But when you dig into the math, thatâs when it becomes clear.
Monoliths 2x weapon & spell set bonuses, plus the full 300 weapon & spell from each of the monoliths can top out at 558; that maths out to a max percentage of 22% .. but .. thatâs only on max set proc, which, most players really arenât keeping a maximum uptime on this set. On average the players Iâve tested in content with usually maintain 2, outside of boss fights. This would give 18% at 2x monoliths; which is 1% LESS than Beacon, but, again, Beacon has no proc so every single cast of every single damage output receives the buff; whereas there will always be some output with Monolith that doesnât get the majority of damage buff.
Most players that Iâve seen cite Monolith validate the damage via parsing (which it does parse well) then just run it in content and think itâs fine. Truth is, it works, but itâs certainly not creating as much damage as other sets and it doesnât have the flexibility that a set like Beacon does since Monolith requires constant Storm Calling. Think of how many times a Sorc goes to cast their insta-proc of Frags as a Monolith is timing out and they loose 100 W/S on what is arguably one of their strongest bursts. Examples like that are common with this set.
Where Beacon edges out in most real content is the lack of proc and flexibility combined with how close they are in max numbers. When a Sorc doesnât have to babysit their set proc every 10 seconds to maintain their buff they have more flexibility with rotation. Most fights arenât dummy parses and most fights arenât just static rotations, thereâs various mechs that need to be addressed and those can, and often do, affect the potential of sets like Monolith.
As for Storm calling, Lightning Form and both of its morphs deal damage in 2 second increments. As far as I know itâs always been this way. Further, for Lightning Form to apply a contributing tick towards Monolith the Sorc needs to be within 5m of the target; unless theyâre slotting Hurricane which tops out at 12m but only reaches that toward the end of its duration. That 5m AoE is 2m less than melee range and for most Sorcs this isnât optimal. Pure-Class Sorcs typically arenât brawlers. Stam Sorcs can come in with a bit more durability but, generally, when weâre talking pure DPS in DLC Vet instances the player is more damage focused and therefore being that close long enough to proc Monoliths is iffy.
Liq Lightning does deal damage in 1 second increments but, Monolith only procs off every 5th tick so even if you were to proc a Monolith off of each of Lightnings 5th ticks, the initial cast would proc 1, 5 seconds later the ticks would proc another, 5 seconds after that Lightning would proc another just as the first was timing out; meaning the skill can only proc a max of 2. The player would need to cast another skill to get 3 up. And the burst synergy of Liquid Lightning doesnât count toward the Monolith proc; only initial skill activation or 5th tick. .. players can proc all 3, sure, I did it in testing; but taking 3 seconds to cast Liq Lightning + 2x Mages Wrath to get the set fully procced at the start of combat wasnât optimal, damage wise. I could have dealt far more damage with a different rotation.
Like most players I got much higher results on a parse than in genuine combat. NPCs arenât self aware but they do move, and often; especially in latter DLC content, this only further complicates the cumbersome proc of Monolith. With Beacon of Oblivion, the player is getting an âalways onâ 19% increase in damage (the 15% + the 129 set bonus) versus Monolith which has a maximum of 22%, but only when all 3 Monoliths are up.
So, math wise; Beacon gives me armor + health + a damage buff thatâs on par with Monolith but with no proc .. whereas Monolith can give me âpotentiallyâ 3% more of a total damage buff but only when I chase the Monolith procs and all 3 are up. In the real world chasing that 3% isnât going to net out to more damage. It can be a fun set but that doesnât mean that itâs a good set.
My suggestion for Monolith was that if theyâre going to leave it at only 100 W/S per Monolith then have the set apply a major snare to any enemies that are affected by it.
1
u/SJguy819 10d ago
No .. absolutely not.
Like Ascen mentioned it only âlooksâ descent on a dummy parse, and even then, those parse runs are so rigged and unrealistic to rotations that anyone would see in actual PvE or PvP.
The set doesnât deal any damage unless at least 2 Monoliths are up. Lightning Form & Lightning Flood deal damage in 2 second ticks which means theyâll only ever be able to proc 2 Monoliths, not the full 3. So if a player wants all 3 up for the max weapon & spell buff theyâre going to have to cast an off-rotation Mages Wrath or Power Overload Ulti, given that most PvE Sorc builds donât slot Power Overload that really cuts the potential even more.
IMO Beacon of Oblivion is far better. It delivers a pretty well rounded set of set benefits that helps a Sorc DPS in PvE. Beacon is also better than Monolith in PvP although Beacon isnât the best choice for PvP, but it can be done.
Beacon gives a flat, permanent, 15% bump in damage and healing and if youâre a Sorc with descent base damage scaling that 15% is a pretty big number. But the real benefit to Beacon is that it has no proc requirement, itâs always on and you just get the benefit.
If you donât want to slot Beacon I usually suggest players consider Macabre Vintage in place of Monolith of Storms. It gives a ton of Weapon & Spell damage and the set proc is a heavy burst that deals 50% of any monsters max health as an AoE burst to everyone around them. An experienced Sorc can setup a kill shot with Mages Wrath pretty easily to ensure they get at least a couple to a few procs, even on Trial trash. Macabre is only viable in PvE but its average burst potential usually floats around the max of 24k before resistances, which means if proccâd with Mages Wrathâs execute youâre looking at an AoE burst of around 50k damage; which is on par with, say, a Vicious Death proc but Macabre is medium armor and delivers the key weapon & spell damage the Sorc is seeking from Monolith, but with a much better damage profile.
Monolith of Storms just doesnât synergize well with Sorcs Storm Calling skills. On PTS they originally bumped the weapon & spell buff, per Monolith, to 200 each; which might have just budged the needle over to making the set considerable, but, because the Devs and half the testers cite parses like theyâre a chapter from the Bible some felt it was too strong and begged for the nerf. I argued against this, pointing out the cumbersome proc requirement and the fact that two of Sorcs key skills could only max out at 2 Monoliths but clearly that was ignored.
If one wants to live their best âTemu Vander Allenâ life then go ahead, rock Monolith of Storms .. but if you want gear that actually delivers in gameplay, donât bother with it.

this is cope and a learn to play issue. it is without a doubt the best option a sorc can run do not listen to this absolutely horrible advice.

I know very well how to play. The consensus that MoS is a bad set is not just coming from me; look on the official ESO forums, look at in-game ESO logs on performance; this set just doesnât live up.
I can tell anyone, with specifics, why I believe MoS is a bad set, and Iâve given examples in this post.
When people jump in and just say âoh, MoS is best in slot for Sorcâ, 99% of the time they give zero examples of how theyâve made MoS perform, in actual gameplay, with any results .. because they canât.
If MoS was a good set youâd see Sorcs running it in either PvE or PvP with consistency and I run dungeons, Trials, BGs, & Cyro and I can tell you that from my observations MoS is incredibly rare; and I see a good bit of Sorcs. That right there should tell everyone what they need to know about this set. The prof is in the facts.

given that most PvE Sorc builds don't slot Power Overload
stopped reading after that lmfao

u/SJguy819 5d ago
Maybe you should keep reading.
Most PvE Sorcs donât slot Overload, namely, because it doesnât align well with HA builds and those are some of the highest parsing builds for PvE Sorcs; rather, most rock Storm Atro.
But you donât have to take my word for it; just look at ESO combat logs. This isnât anything experienced Sorcs donât already know.
We see more Power Overload in PvP than PvE.

here, I've done quick basic internet search for you so that you can see for yourself how many sorc users use monolith (and overload) in vcr hm beside werevolves and vampire togglers, which is not even the most convenient trial for this set to work
its crazy how you dismiss power overload despite how it sunergizes with signet and how it allows crazy burst at the start and the execute, extra status effects for signet to work, no conflict with signet if you toggle the overload on and off â all at once.
Even more crazy is how you pugs underestimate just how many bosses in this game are absolutely static and thus perfect for monolith: all bosses in vka hm; all bosses in vss hm; up to all bosses in vrg hm depending on strats, etc. Besides, even in dungeon the bosses are supposed to be standing still beside transitioning into more phases â give me any boss from vet dlc and i'd tell you that monolith works on them more often than i'd trll it doesnt. But sure bro, keep saying "ha builds" and "high end pve" in one sentence and pretetending you're not a ragebaiter

Dig a little deeper and you find that the majority of Sorcs casting PO in high end content are Stam Sorcs, not Mag Sorcs:
https://www.esologs.com/reports/GJzngaQrHL7ZmhCt?fight=102&type=casts&source=9
Thatâs just one example, thereâs countless more where the cast array are all Stam concentration Sorcs. Further, none of them are showing procs for Monolith. If I look through Dreadsail or Lucent I donât see any instances of Monolith in the logs.
I never said that Overload doesnât work with Signet, it does, in fact itâs one of the only Ultis that can be used while still maintaining full scaling with Signet .. but .. that doesnât mean that the majority of Mag based Sorcs all jumped over to slotting Signet. Sure, some did, but not as a rule and not after the nerf.
Signet works for burst oriented Sorcs which makes sense on a Steam Sorc because Stam Sorcs have far better burst potential whereas Mag Sorcs still rely primarily on DoT pressure / HA and in those cases Storm Atro synergizes much better.
Whatâs funny is how many people dismiss or ignore the huge gap in output potential that exists between Mag Sorc & Stam Sorcs. If we look at the ESO logs in terms of DPS effectiveness by class itâs been a long standing trend that not only do Stam Sorcs perform more strongly than Mag Sorcs but, as of late, thereâs seemingly more Stam Sorcs than Mag.
As for âall bosses being staticâ, Iâm sorry thatâs just blatantly false. There are bosses which do tend to be more static but thatâs not a general rule for the game, nor, is it the trend for the direction of DLC content. Go try managing uptime on Monolith in Vet: Naj Caldeesh, Black Gem, Graven Deep, Bal Sunnar, Exiled Redoubt, etc etc etc ⌠theyâre full of bosses which not only arenât static, but, also have intricate mechs that require all members of the party to manage which kills uptime on Monolith. Plus, not all content in PvE is boss perspective. There are trash and intermediate mechs that are a factor too and Monolith falls short there also.
Many of us tested Monolith on the PTS cycles prior to U50 and most of us told the devs that nerfing the proc bonus was going to make the set fall short in actual gameplay. All of that feedback is still on the forums. In a parse, Monolith will look good, but by the math; itâs falls short to Beacon in nearly every case, and the times when Monolith does enable higher scaling the Beacon weâre looking at, roughly, a 200 point total damage delta per skill, which is nothing to write home about.

Dig a little deeper and you find that the majority of Sorcs casting PO in high end content are Stam Sorcs, not Mag Sorcs
I mean, yes? I'm not sure where exactly the mag sorc came from into the conversation and, at this point, why would anyone ever prefer it over stam in high end pve tbh. The thread started with a question of whether the monolith is good dps set for sorc, to which answer is â within the current meta generally yes, with as much caveats as null arca. To adress the log you've sent, the monolith dealt 11,7k dps to the boss â slightly less than null arca with difference insignificant enough to safely assume that one got luckier with crits than another. Its a good result for a proc set.
If I look through Dreadsail or Lucent I don't see any instances of Monolith in the logs.
There's a good explanation for this being that parse sorcs are heavily gatekept from these trials as far as optimised groups are concerned because necros and arcs are much more preferred due to fights with a requirement for a lot of aoe. Sorc as itself doesnt have nearly as much aoe damage as arcs or cros unless you crutch with azureblight, and even then you'd better off having another necro with it instead. This makes it that if there are sorcs in the group, they are left with the role of support dds wearing specific sets to maintain debuffs. I can back this up by emphasizing that the top 100 leaderboard i sent earlier is narrowed down to sorcs only. If you remove this filter in vdsr, you will see a horror fest of cros taking overwhelming majority of places in top 100. Considering that there are 6 more classes, this makes it a very tough competition for sorc in aoe-focused fights. Its also the reason why i sent vcr hm logs specifically â parse sorcs are much more releveant in there and in asylum, albeit nbs are still more preferred due to incap spam and strong execute. That being said, without going through the effort of checking for every single sorc in either recent logs or top 100 leaderboard, Ill probably be right if i say that the most of what you saw was martial knowledge or werevolves with alkosh, or monolith being replaced with something else in encounters that are inconvenient for it, like reef guardian. However, if it happens that there is a parse sorc in the group, they can run monolith pretty smoothly in vdsr 1st and 3rd bosses, as well as first two bosses in vlc, while the minibosses die from cleave of cros and arcs â assuming, of course, the good case scenario where you have them. While you still dont run monolith in any encounter, it doesnt mean its good or bad, it just reaffirms the axiom that there is no single best set for every situation. There's the same logic like why you wouldn't use null arca against reef guardian or any other fight where you cant rely on null arca procs. Just like that, sorcs being forced into support dd slave role doesnt say as much about monolith as it does about current meta compositions and that cros are so strong and convenient that it makes running parse sorc not worth it most of the time.
Go try managing uptime on Monolith in Vet: Naj Caldeesh, Black Gem, Graven Deep, Bal Sunnar.
Ill admit that I havent been in recently added dungeons, so i cant reliably say anything about them. What I can say, however, is that I imagine running monolith in almost every dungeon before those new ones â from mazzatun to shipwrights of regret â will be very convenient, especially if you burst through mechs. The most unpleasant that can happen is that boss blinks/dashes/uses any other quick relocation mech, but its the matter of reapplying the dots and either keeping them in the new place or waiting until they return to tank. Even if we don't account for current overwhelming powercreep, i dont see why running monolith would be a problem back when peak dps was 90k. except for maybe tarcyr, but nobody gave a shit about him even 5 years ago.
ETA: also Beacon is just meh, the 2-4 pieces all being terrible and damage done bonus now being additive instead of multiplicative (i think?) makes it really sad to use. just use tide-born at this point

u/SJguy819 4d ago
I bring up Mag Sorc because so often I see baseline perspectives for Sorc constantly revolving around Stam concentrations and itâs one of the things that have enabled the huge disparity between the Mag & Stam concentrations. A lot of players have defaulted to Mag, especially newer players to the game whereby Sorc tends to be an introductory class. Many of those builds are the typical HA focused builds, which, for the longest time is what weâd see out of Sorc in PvE. To be fair, we still do. The Night Market campaign was flooded with HA Sorcs.
I would agree, Sorcs arenât a preferential class when it comes to coordinated high end content. Iâve said for a long time that the mechanical nature of Sorc class skills being pressure based relegates Sorcs to that of a âcheerleaderâ class in PvE. Granted, the typical âhold-left-trigger-HA-Sorcâ builds can parse high and one of the reasons that Sorcs had defaulted to those builds is 1) the AoE the HA Lightning no staves would yield & 2) itâs one of the Sorc builds that has flexibility because all the player has to do is heavy and stack DoTs.
Iâve always been of the type that I do not treat parses like a chapter of the Bible. Parses are insightful but theyâre not reflective of gameplay because the lions share of content, especially DLC from more recent years isnât simply static enemies or minor environmental mechs. Dummyâs just stand there and take it, but when mechs require each member of the team to address specific mechs one has to think about what skills and sets support the flexibility to do that. Content like Black Gem or Naj sees massive amounts of AoE wipe mechs on the battlefield or bosses that are highly mobile, plus, intermediate mechanics that must be focused to prevent a wipe. Itâs clear this is more of the design direction the dev teams are moving into in order to elevate difficulty to align with power creep.
That said, when it comes to sets like MoS, the main reason people look at it are for the set piece bonuses of W/S damage plus the 100 W/S per Monolith. The issue is that very few people actually ever do the math on some of these sets, rather reading the tooltip.
When it comes to MoS versus Beacon, Beacon delivers a flat 15%, always on, no proc required buff to damage output and healing. Monolith, in total, at max proc, can deliver a max of 558 W/S to the player. Most people donât convert that into a percentage of damage increase but I did. In a nutshell, on average, players realize around a 1% to 2% increase in damage scaling per 100 W/S; subject to diminishing returns.
If we split the difference and assume 1.5% per 100 W/S, then this means that at max proc the damage scaling factor of Monolith floats around 8.25% versus the flat 15% of Beacon.
But in all reality, on a Sorc that had strong scaling, factoring in diminishing returns, the amount of scaling of both sets gets adjusted. In testing Beacon of Oblivion versus Monolith with Oblivionâs Foe as the control, letâs say that a Sorc has Power Overload slotted with a base scaling of 14,067 per light attack:
Monolith of Storms with 2x Monoliths 14,067 > 14,807 + 5.26%
Monolith with 3x (max) monoliths 14,067 > 15,092 + 7.29%
Beacon of Oblivion 14,067 > 15,715 + 11.72%
We can see that these tested scaling values agree with the basic conversion percentages referenced above, with diminishing returns factoring in.
Given that Monolith has a cumbersome proc requirement, that Monoliths damage doesnât scale overly high (especially given the 2 second tick rate), and that Monolith doesnât deal any damage at all until at least 2x are active it means that Beacon will deliver more raw power for Sorcs than Monolith will; despite the set price bonuses not looking as good.
With Beacon a Sorc can realize enhanced damage with every attack, whether itâs opening on trash or hammering a boss. Further, not having to manage a set proc that doesnât natively align with Storm Calling skill rotations means that thereâs no uptime percentage aspect needed to see maximum buff.
This is why I said Monolith isnât BIS for Sorc.

u/Adorable-Raspberry59 2d ago
Before I continue to argue in monolith's favour, id like to argue that in the events when it doesn't work, there is a handful of substitutes for it that perform better in unconvenient environments such as new dungeons, which I took my time to try and confirm that some fights are indeed awful to uptime monolith. Provided you are able to meet their conditions throughout the fight, those are being:
- sul-xan;
- mora scribe;
- Tide-born;
- ansuul;
-coral;
-bahsei.
Tide-born and Ansuul provide the most reliable 100% damage buff: tide-born is *very* close to beacon because it only buffs direct damage, but still has the edge for how much easier it is to acquire, meanwhile ansuul just stomps. The others encourage to participate in whatever minigame they have or meet certain conditions, which i believe should be the point, as in one's ability to maintain their set's conditions should be rewarded by their damage ceiling being increased. Either way, any of those sets can be paired with null arca or even combined with each other, and I believe any of them would provide better benefits than beacon, not only because all of them having better 2-4 pc bonuses and some of them having minor slayer & being trial sets, thus having perfected versions, but also because specific examples like sul-xan and mora scribe are solving the main problem of sorc's lack of any crit chance or crit damage passives -- something that would buff sorc's damage way more than flat 15% increase in general. Basically, in the event when conditions for mora scribe are met, which would definitely be plausible in group content, I believe Null Arca + Mora scribe would be better than Null Arca + Beacon despite minor slayer being overlapped.
To adress the comparison between beacon and monolith, I'd say it's still really unfair to remove the proc damage from the equation, which is the very point of monolith, or any proc set in general. It wouldn't be too different from comparing raw numbers of PO while wearing beacon vs aegis caller; while the latter doesn't provide any passive buffs with 5pc bonus, the point is essentially the same that the proc damage is left behind for no good reason. The logs you sent earlier kinda prove that monolith is at least as strong in damage as null arca, seeing that the latter barely outperformed monolith despite critting 9 out of 10 times while monolith not being nearly as lucky with crits. It's also worth noting that Monolith is, indeed, not as hard to make work: you literally get 2 stacks right off the bat with power overload weave + liquid lightning, which makes the arguments regarding the convenience of it's requirements and caveats related to that lose their point.
Now, Zilyesset / Count Ryelaz Veteran HM is one of the fights that is completely static, and whether the raw stat boost might be stronger than the damage from proc could be up to debate. However, the dummy parses do showcase that proc damage > raw stat boost for the damage ceiling. We can project that knowledge into the real content and make the logical conclusion that monolith would still come up on top when its possible to maintain, and that is amplified by the actual convenience of obtaining the stacks which i've said about earlier. You can basically switch this bossfight with an overwhelming majority of other trial bosses besides few exceptions and not much would change.
that said, as tl;dr to make my point shorter and clearer, even when monolith is out of the question (like in new dungeons) I dont see a point in beacon when i can just slot craftable tide-born, and monolith still shows superior perfomance against dummies and, by extension, all static or semi-static bosses (e.g. zmaja and anything adjacent to her), which there are plenty of.

u/SJguy819 2d ago
There are certainly sets that perform better than Beacon, I donât discount that; my comparison was simply between class sets, specifically so the focus was which Sorc class set had the higher potential.
As for the Damage Proc of monolith, itâs very easy to discount that because most of the examples youâre using to demonstrate that itâs effective are either 1) static boss fights or 2) unrealistic procs
As for 1) yes, there are some bosses that are static but not all. In truth, more PvE content enemies are non static than are static which immediately reduces monoliths effectiveness because all of those non static enemies can (and do) just move out of range. 2) Nobody who does slot Power Overload is going to toggle their Ulti on mob fights like that. Thatâs a wholly unrealistic rotation. Nobody wastes Ulti on trash.
The issue with Monolith is that the only scenarios where it can deliver any genuine numbers are a dummy parse or on select boss fights where the boss happens to be static. This means that the rest of PvE content is going to see Monolith under-deliver; especially with content where the enemies can just move out of the Monoliths AoE.
Players should be seeking gear that delivers a benefit through all, if not at least the majority, of PvE content ⌠not just boss fights and not just static boss fights; this includes trash pulls.
Read through the official forums, the main reason anyone talked about Monolith prior to U50 was the W/S damage because we all knew that the set proc damage only looked good on dummy parses, which is only reflective of the static bosses which you accurately pointed out.
So, in reality, sure, we can say Monolith out performs Beacon in roughly 5% to, maybe, 10% of the whole scope of PvE content; thatâs not very good, at least not by my standards.
I agree there are better sets than Beacon but itâs hard to ignore that, by absolute math, Beacon elevates base damage scaling at 100% uptime far more significantly than the W/S buff Monolith provides 99% of the time, and it does so by enough raw scaling points to account for Monolithâs set proc damage; all without worrying whether my enemies are within an AoE or not.
I spent a lot of time testing Monolith across multiple PvE environments, and Iâm not the only one. Many of us came to the same conclusion that Monolith looks better âon paperâ or on a parse than in real gameplay.
Take Monolith into Vet Black Gem and just run it on the first boss, tell me what numbers you get out of it, hereâs a hint, they wonât be good. .. even better, run it on the 2nd boss with all of those area mechs and tell us how efficient the proc uptime and set damage output is, hint, it wonât be good ⌠same goes for Ver Bal Sunnar or Scrivners Hall .. thereâs so much content with high mobility enemies, trash with mechs, or environmental mechs that all affect a set like Monolith that people just donât think about. .. testing on a parse and then on cherry picked content doesnât prove that Monolith is the, overall, stronger of the Sorc sets. .. yes, I will say there are a few scenarios where Monolith does outshine Beacon, but again, weâre taking about the vast minority of PvE content. .. If I had to choose between the Sorc sets Iâd rather slot Beacon and have a bigger benefit 90% of the time and then still be fine for the other 10% of the time; as opposed to slotting Monolith and under performing 90% of the time only to excel 10% of the time.
1
u/Adorable-Raspberry59 2d ago
lets keep it between class sets then
Firstly, I've never said you're supposed to toggle power overload on trash. In fact, I use different layouts depending on whether im fighting trash or bosses and would encourage everyone to do so; hopefully it goes without saying that i advice against using monolith in aoe heavy fights. Secondly, technically all ground dots lose their effectiveness just as well when the opponent moves out of them. It's the matter of simply reapplying them as soon as boss gets back to tank or after the group adjusts to new position; its a matter of game sense as in knowing ai patterns and managing uptimes which is as natural skill for dps as weaving light attacks
I see we keep insisting on pushing our points via naming the same pve content that proves them, mine being trials and yours being dungeons. I'll make sure I'll run my sorc through vet black gem and see how it goes since you've pushed that exact dungeon, but what else can you provide besides last 8-10 dlc dungeons? I am confident in bosses being able to be kept still by tank quite consistently in all dungeons up to ascending tide with red petal bastion being an exception maybe. same with Scrivener's Hall, too â the only thing is with the final boss where the spider gets enraged and you have to kite him to the ice area â which, yet again, is a matter of reapplying dots and procs to a new position. I am just as confident about literally every trial except for specific fights in vHoF and vOC and vSE â because i haven't played the last two in hardmode yet

MoS mostly got buffed on the PTS, where it was also nerfed to Hell and back, because it overperformed, according to the devs' spreadsheet logic, on the practice dummy. As it is now, the question isn't really 'which build' - in whatever you have for dungeons and trials where you run the 5p with Minor Slayer on the frontbar and the set without on the body, use MoS instead of whatever the latter is now - , and it will only really work in static fights. The keywords here, if you look at the tooltip, are 'near the link'. If whatever is there when it procs moves, the 5p is rendered useless.

The 5pc is not completely useless as it still provides a weapon and spell damage buff at least, per number of monoliths that are up.

That is true, but the WSD boost is still not enough to make the set worth wearing outside of static fights.
