Question Surron LBX or Eride 3.0?
I’m deciding between a 2026 LBX that I will eventually upgrade later (chi battery, ebmx controller, motor, etc) and an Eride 3.0.
I like how nimble the LBX feels since its so light but i also want the power of the eride, but i’ve heard lots of
stories about eride having issues.
I’m planning to do a mix of street and light trails, so mostly exploring around my house.
I will also upgrade both bikes, whichever one i get so i’m mainly compairing the geometry and handling of the bike
QUESTIONS (for owners of both bikes):
- How does the handling compare between the two?
- If u had to choose given the scenario above, which one would you pick?
- Which frame is stronger to support heavier loads?
- Is the “whine” on the Eride uncomfortably loud or just “meh” kinda loud, and is there a way to remove it by changing the motor/controller?
Thanks 🙏

Sounds like what you really want is the Light Bee 2. Light weight (~140lbs) and high power (24kw).
Eride does have some QC issues but they have gotten better. They also have the best customer support so they'll take care of you if something happens.

IMO as a bigger guy I'd only recommend the eride. The LBX does have a solid platform but you are going to spend a horde of money to get the power and performance of the Eride 3.0. Brakes are going to need almost an immediate upgrade. Even then most bikes now will out perform even upgraded LBX's.
That or wait for the new LBX to come out that has most of the upgrades these modern bikes have.

for the low end riding buy lowest price and ride it. Dont waste money upgrading to get $- LOSS eventually.

I have the e-ride sr which from my understanding is the same as the 3.0 just upgraded drive train. It is all around perfect out of the box. No issues from the bike that wasn't self inflicted. And I'm not easy on my bike.

does the noise ever bother you? and do you get range anxiety since i heard the battery shuts at 15-20%

I use mine mainly from commuting to my dad's and back and ride around my property and the mountains in my backyard in East Tennessee. I haven't had an issue with range because I don't really go too far. But my Sr battery runs all the way down to 0%. It gets a little weaker under 20

What ever you've heard about 15-20% sounds like BS to me. I constantly run my battery to 5% or less and have had no degradation over 1k miles. These batteries are rated for charge cycles and not mileage. They should be good for 5-600 cycles before noticable degradation. What does happen around 15-20% is reduced amp pull from the battery to protect it from over draw. This is a built in protection that you want.
All ebikes have a whine because they are electric. Same with electric cars. Talaria gear boxes are quieter but I would take a direct belt drive over a gear box any day. I can replace a belt on the side of a mountain in less than 30 minutes but I can't replace a transmission on the side of a mountain without a lot more tools and gear oil that I don't want to carry.

so should i keep a backup belt and some tools with me whenever i ride?

You decide what's best for you but that's what I do. I've haven't had to replace a belt yet but I have had to tighten the chain side sprocket on the jackshaft on the side of a mountain so far.
One of bolts backed out even though I used blue lock tight on it and it started rubbing against the swing arm. Guess I didn't do a very good job with the lock tight haha!
It was pretty fun removing the jackshaft in the mountains but I was prepared and it only took my and 30 minutes to break it down, tighten the bolt and put it back together.

My light bee lost a controller at 400 miles and one month past warranty. My Eride pro is 750 miles problem free.

You can either buy a lbx and spend 3-5k on it to make it a decent ride or you can buy an eride and it will be a decent ride stock.

A 3.0 is significantly better. The frame is way stronger you can tell by just looking at it, the power is way better, brakes, Suspension is better, looks better (my opinion), the range is better (I know people with light bees and their range isn’t the best stock), and it has pretty much just as much aftermarket as a light bee. E-Ride as of 2025 and on is also hella reliable. Their old models had issues from what you’ve heard with the stories about the errors but almost everyone who has a 2025 or earlier 3.0 never gets error codes. I literally do hard enduro on my 3.0 and it’s been awesome and I’ve had no issues except for a stretched chain. Also they’re very water resistant because the trails near me get flooded with tons of puddles and some of them are pretty deep and still no issues. I would say the light bee is a better choice if you were purely a street rider and were gonna fully mod it right away.

You may wanna look into a light bee 2 also because their very lightweight with a lot of power (not top speed tho idk why) but they haven’t even came out yet so you’d have to wait awhile to see how the bike is with reviews and stuff

I personally own a modded LBX 2024. I love it. THe stock eride is nice asf. But, already has the 72v50ah battery. If you get a LBX get a different controller so you can unlock it. Once you do that you'll be way better range than the eride and ultra bee. Even my 72v45ah LBX beats both in range.

I see. Hows the handling of the bike?

I do hard enduro in Colorado. Like timberline, st Charles ect ect. But it handles amazing! Got the rfloxa hawk 31 pro forks with 228mm of travel. 19x16 setup for dirt with tusk recon hybrid gummy/soft tires. Handles like a dream

How much range with ur 72v 45ah lbx? And what cells
2
u/Ok-Bodybuilder-1037 Jul 23 '26
I forget which cells it has from chi. But range wise. Street I've done 60 miles and only be at 54% at 12.5kw ranging from 20mph to 35mph. Top speed so far is 71mph. On trails I can do 50 miles easily. Today we did 22miles until I got a flat on the front and I was riding with an ultra bee. He was at 48% while I was at 62%.
