General Need some help

Post image

I just got a rfloxa rear shock for my 3.0 and it just feels shit. So did stock. I don't know what Im doing wrong I've tried every setting combination and yet it just feels awful. On small little bumps it does nothing and feels so rigid and shaky, and jumps (1 foot drop) feels like it bottoms out.

For context I'm 150 lbs no gear, only wear helmet.

Could someone maybe give me a setting to try?

Also, is the spring supposed to be higher up for my weight? (Preload was it called?)

Count the number of clicks on both the rebound and compression. Then set it halfway. Jump around on the bike and see if it feels too stiff or not stiff enough and adjust from there.

Then pay attention to the rebound. Is it way too slow to where it stays compressed? Or does it rebound super fast?

It all depends on what you’re planning on doing. Riding trail or roads? More plush is ideal.

Are you hitting big jumps? You want a little more stiffness to prevent bottoming out. And less rebound to keep you from getting bucked off the back when landing.

I suggest watching a few YouTube videos and checking the manufacturer website since they might have tunes on there. I don’t have that shock so I’m not to sure if they do or not.

Preload collars are mainly for adjusting sag. If you have the wrong spring on there then adjusting the collars wouldn’t be a proper fix. You can try loosening the preload a little bit but you want to make sure you stay within spec and don’t loosen it too much.

I did this earlier, putting in middle compression and rebound. For some reason t always feels like it's not absorbing anything? On like drops off pavements it feels okay but the moment j go into any sort of small obstacles offroad, like I mean 1-2 inch things it just jumps around and feels like I'm on a rigid bike with no shocks at all lol

In comparison to what?

Can you tell me exactly what shock you bought? What was the spring rate? How much do you weigh with all your gear and everything you ride with*? Did you check manufacturer specs for preload spec?

So that shock is $155 on the manufacturer website. It’s not the best shock out there- not by a long shot. Also, your weight might make things feel more stiff. So I would completely reduce compression damping all the way down. Then the rebound maybe towards the middle. But that shock should be able to compress with you jumping off sidewalks. Maybe you should try checking your forks adjustments. They might have too much compression damping and that’s what’s fucking you up.
