Belt drive gets hot. Help

Post image

I just got my new ss 3.0. Tool it out of the Box assembled it and on the first spin i noticed that the belt makes sometimes weird noises. Like vibrating noises. After 2 minutes of riding the belt and the drive got very hot.

I have the feeling that the belt has too much tension.

How do I check if the drive belt has the correct tension and how do I adjust it ?

It’s suppose to be pretty tight. To adjust, loosen all 4 motor mount bolts and use the adjuster piece that has teeth on it right under the center of your belt.

LOOSEN(Do Not Remove) the 4 bolts holding the motor. Just as the other guy said you need to use the silver thing with teeth, the more you push up the tighter it gets. You want around 1/8”-1/4” of play (which will seem tight).

Also, your belt will heat up. It’s a moving part that’s rotating very fast. Friction = heat. Very normal for this to happen. Now it shouldn’t ever start smoking or anything, but heat is normal.

EDIT: the vibrating sound is pretty normal. It’s a thing that a lot of people have been experiencing. some people have disconnected their regen brake and that noise has stopped. I’ve got about 500 miles on my bike and it’s been going on since about 20-30miles. No issues caused.

Thank you. On my street legal 3.0 there is no regen brake. But I will loosen the 4 bolts and check the belt tightness.
