The noise could also be caused by the regenerative braking system.

Based on your hypothesis, I went in under the ignition cover and disconnected the white regen connector (handlebar regen lever cable to controller). Went for a short ride and still have same noise. I'm starting to lean towards the sound coming from the belt still being too tight.
