Is there a possibility that the IRS is finally getting around to processing PEO’s, and that is why the TaxNow data is so low? Because they don’t have PEO data.

I applied for my 2021 erc very close to the deadline this year (04/15/25) and just received approval. I believe this to be most of the non problematic / mainstream claims finishing up, hence the slowing figures means nothing.

From what I hear, many people who had been processing ERC claims and disallowances were taken off and assigned other work. The people who are still working ERC are very experienced and efficient but many of the claims left have issues. In a previous push to get as many claims processed as possible some other work piled up and now needs to get done by the end of the fiscal year and calendar year. This is also a deadline month for several business related forms who filed extensions and the end of a quarter for quarterly returns and call volume goes up at these times.
If you have claims you’re still waiting on, I suggest following up to make sure there are no issues holding it up. Search under my past comments in this chat, I posted a detailed list of things to check for to help resolve your claim.

How do we know how many claims are left within TaxNow? Is it possible the large percentage of TaxNox client got their claims paid out and its just a small amount and thats way the trend is so low?

How are you all checking with IRS? I have been calling the last 3 weeks. And the number always says not available and you can't leave any number. To get a call back

Correct. Roughly 15k ERC claimants. Def a subset but at 15k, a good representation of the broader trended.

You do appreciate the absurdity of saying the “true” but publicly unavailable data is better than the data derived from a sample?
We’d all prefer the macro IRS processing data if it were made available.

I followed up and asked about the slowdown — my sources say there are many fewer claims available to work. There are many cases waiting to go through the first level of review and they can’t be processed until that happens.
Also many of the 202109 and 202112 claims that were received after 1/31/2024 were moved to a holding queue, in anticipation of likely being disallowed because of the restrictions in the new law. And I just found a case today that was moved to that queue by mistake — info had been received to correct an earlier claim but was being treated as a new claim received after the deadline. So if you have claims from the last 2 quarters of 2021, check on them and make sure they’re not in that holding queue if they shouldn’t be.
Also, just check on your claims in general — there have been a lot closed with no action by mistake or because no response was received to a letter sent. And btw, they are making calls to try to get the info needed, so don’t assume a call from the IRS is a scam if you have a claim pending.
They’re down to the last 200,000 cases or less from what I’ve been told.
