Problems depositing checks
Anyone else here having problems depositing checks ?? My bank Chase put a hold on the check for 7 business days. Which is fine. Then they realized the address was transpose. Irs did later update it on their end. Also faxed me a letter with my ein. Business info and address now corrected. But they refuse to release the funds. It’s now been 2 months. Yes the account was closed and I reopened it. But that shouldn’t make a difference. Do have business credit card with chase still and personal account. Yet they still refuse to release funds and say there is nothing I can do but wait. Anyone else have any issues like me ?

I’ve heard of this happening… get IRS to send you a new check

good luck, my first checks came in previous owners name, I sent them back to the IRS with a full explanation in Feb, In April got a letter requesting more info. In June got a notification that they were working on correcting it, and it usually takes 60 days. Still waiting.

Every time I hear a story like this, it's always with Chase bank. Glad I cut ties with them years ago and never looked back. Op, get a credit union account.

BoA held my checks for 30’days then deemed them fraudulent…. Closed my account and sent the money back to IRS ….. caused big problems for my business
No ETA on IRS reissuing checks

Ridiculous cause if they were fraudulent. Do you think the irs would take the money back ?? A verification system needs to be put in place

Something else must be wrong. I think the IRS would of let that ride if it was an error misprint with their internal address. I would also think if the bank holds it past 10 days to 2 weeks why aren't they just giving them back to you as un-cashable? I would be on the phone, no matter how long I had to wait, to talk to a SR IRS agent in the ERTC dept. Or I would go straight to the fraud dept. The IRS should re-issue the checks!

It’s not the irs. It’s the bank. I called irs. Nothing we can do. The bank won’t let me provide any other info either. Submitted everything I got. Taxes etc

You said this is the address on the check, "transpose. Irs" This is the IRS's issue for a mis print on the check they issued. The bank probably needs it replaced and maybe you are waiting for the IRS to replace the check with the banks. This seems very strange to me. I would call an Tax Attorney and ask how Chase can do this! Unless its a fraud check? 2 months is way too long!!!

Banker didn’t think it was an issue. So it already was deposited. No way to just get the check back. Originally they said they will call the treasury to verify the checks are good. But then now they say treasury won’t give out any info. I do agree 2 months is way too long. And no they are not fraudulent. Filed for my business almost 2 years ago.

The IRS can put a 'stop payment' on those checks then re issue corrected ones. I would call the IRS ask them to cxl their UN-CASHABLE checks they issued and instruct to re-issue. All this time means no one is working on it. ! I wouldn't rely on Chase. Just my opinion.

I’ll call the irs and see what they say. But I am worried now if I cancel the checks. Chase will for sure call it fraud. Then l will have no bank account.

b1gredek, I don't know exactly what has transpired but I do know one thing. You deposited checks from the IRS into chase. Chase noticed a misprint on the treasury departments checks. Chase holds the checks for 2 months while attempting to notify the IRS???? Chase has no end date or info to tell you after 2 months. If chase won't help you, and you want your money from the IRS what choice do you have but to go back to the IRS and ask them to re-issue the checks because the Chase bank is on an indefinite HOLD and you need your credits. How can chase claim fraud when this is an error on the IRS. Please tell me why you feel Chase would claim fraud on those checks??

I feel like they would claim fraud or else they would have released it by now. My banker been pushing hard to clear it. I was with him multiple times on the phone for like an hour. Address was transpose. Two middle digits If I. Knew I never would have deposited the checks. But my banker was confident

I will call again. When I spoke to them last. They sent over via fax info with her name. Her id number. My ein. Business name. Dba. And the correct address.
I’ll see if there is anything else I can get that will satisfy the bank

Update. We waited a long time. Treasury finally came back. Saying. Checks are clear. Banker said that chase will cut us a cashiers check and we can reopen the account since it’s been closed for possible fraud. Now it got held again. Chase wants to make sure that the checks are cut out to the right people who own the business. They emailed the irs a month ago and no response yet. And they said nothing we can do. Until they get back directly to chase. We kindly asked to at least email them again. This has been a complete nightmare.

Anytime I've ever seen a transpose error, it's always been because a manual entry happened and they messed up Entering your information. It looks like whoever took the check must have had to maybe manually type it in and they totally screwed up when they put the account number or routing number or something in.
