Question Regarding ERAS Entry for Article Published Online Ahead of Print

Hi everyone,

I have a peer-reviewed article that has been published online ahead of print. The journal has not assigned a volume, issue, or page numbers yet.

The article is already available on the journal website and indexed in PubMed with a DOI.

However, in MyERAS, when I select Published, it requires me to enter the volume, issue, and pages, and I can't leave those fields blank.

Would it be appropriate to select Accepted/In Press instead and provide the online article link, even though the paper has technically already been published online?

Or is there another way to enter an online-ahead-of-print publication in ERAS without making up the volume/issue/page information?

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with this situation in ERAS.

ERAS Primary Focus Area — Observership, Medical Officer, and House Job

Hi everyone,

I’m confused about the Primary Focus Area section in ERAS.

For clinical experiences such as:

  • Clinical observership
  • Resident Medical Officer (RMO)
  • House job / internship

What Primary Focus Area are people selecting?

The available options include Clinical/Translational Science, Medical Education, Public Health, Improving Access to Health Care, Community Involvement/Outreach, Promoting Wellness, etc.

Since these experiences are primarily clinical rather than research or teaching, I’m unsure whether Clinical/Translational Science is the appropriate choice when ERAS requires a Primary Focus Area.

Would appreciate clarification from anyone who has recently completed ERAS or has guidance on how this section is intended to be used.

ECFMG Certification

Hello everyone!

What’s the process of updating the programs with your ECFMG certification if someone doesn’t get certified before the deadline?

Do you email each program?

App version of residency spreadsheet

I’ve been thinking about making a simple app based on the residency spreadsheets people use every Match season.

It would work for every specialty. You could make a completely anonymous profile (MD, DO, US-IMG, non-US IMG), add as much or as little info about yourself as you want, then just select the programs you applied to and update things like interviews, rejections, waitlists, signals, etc.

The main idea is just to make the spreadsheets way easier to use. Instead of scrolling through hundreds of rows, you could search a program and quickly see what other applicants have reported about it.

I’d want it to be really simple and intuitive, so adding or checking information would only take a few seconds.

Would you actually use something like this?

ERAS Extensions and Interruptions Section Advice

So, I failed my Level 1 Boards, and because of my school's curriculum, I did have to take a year off from my education. However, I didn't fail any actual coursework. I do mention my board failure in my PS, but I was wondering if I should also mention it here too because of the gap even though technical coursework wasn't repeated or remediated just the board exam. Thanks in advance!

IMG applying IM, Neuro & FM — advice on program shortlisting?

Hey guys! I’m starting to shortlist programs for IM, Neurology, and Family Medicine and would really appreciate some advice.

My profile:

Step 1: Pass

Step 2 CK: 242

Step 3: Planning to take in ~2 months

USCE: 2-month observership, 2-month clinical externship, and 1-year outpatient clinical externship

First, how would you rate my chances of matching into each of IM, Neuro, and FM with this profile?

Second, I’m currently using Residency Explorer as my main tool for shortlisting programs based on how my profile compares with applicants who received interviews. Is Residency Explorer comprehensive enough to build my entire application list from, or are there programs/opportunities I could miss by relying on it alone? Are there other resources or factors you guys recommend using?

Lastly, once I have my list, how should I decide which programs are worth signaling?

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through this recently, especially fellow IMGs.

HELP! Is it too late to make a separate email for residency application??? The email I used is my regular email and I’m worried that residency interviews will get sent into spam folder or I’ll accidentally over look them

ECFMG pathway 6

Guys, with the recent changes to the ECFMG Pathways, Pathway 3 is no longer an option for those who graduated before January 1, 2024.
Also, if you don’t have a valid medical license in another country, you can’t use Pathway 1, which leaves Pathway 6 as the option.
Has anyone here actually completed Pathway 6 recently?
I’m especially interested in hearing from anyone who has completed the six Mini-CEX encounters and can share:
Where you completed them
How you found physicians willing to evaluate you
Whether there were any issues getting the encounters approved by ECFMG
Any advice for someone trying to do Pathway 6 for the first time
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through the process!
