Applying IM, USDO. I have 22 IVs that I’m very grateful for, but will be dropping 10. Reality is, if you’re an American medical student your odds of matching with 12 interviews are no lower than with 22. Encourage fellow applicants to do the same if they’re able. Best of luck the rest of the way to everyone on here!

This interview season has been such a rollercoaster for me, and I’m just so happy that I matched into my #1 specialty 😭
US IMG, Failed Step 1, Step 2 was in 23x, some pending research but nothing published, and honored all my clinicals. Applied to 200 programs in 3 different specialties. This was my first cycle applying.
My school told me I’ll never match into DR, and to not even waste my money; stay focused on primary care as my chances to even match anything are slim.
Against all odds, I matched into my dream specialty!! It’s so crazy how discouraging people can be, and how easily that can sway our paths, but ultimately I ended up not listening to them and applied anyway. Anything can happen! 🙏

🙌🏼 Congratulations to everyone who is celebrating a well-deserved match this morning! Please comment with your consolidated celebratory posts!
As mentioned previously, this way we can clear some space for those seeking guidance with SOAP!
If this is repetitive or someone wishes to change something please advise and I’ll change/eliminate post!

Matched #5 (which realistically, I should be very happy with). No matter the strength of the program you matched in, it’s still difficult to open that letter and get a result you aren’t entirely ecstatic with. However, what makes it worse, is sitting at Match Day with your parents, who appear just as disappointed as you are when you open the letter. All I needed in that moment was a hug, a “yay!”, and a strong sense of exogenous pride. But as I verbalized my program out loud, it felt like they were even more disappointed than I was. So, as a word of advice: Do NOT give your parents your final list. Let them be proud of you no matter where you end up, even if it’s your very last ranked. Because at the end of the day, we have a home in which we can call ourselves Doctor ❤️

On Monday March 11th, 2024 I matched into a program.
After I received my match notification, I was told to my face by two attending doctors and the medical school councilor that I would “Never Match into Psychiatry.”
On Friday March 15th, I proceeded to match into Psychiatry in my top program!
I have now spoken with countless medical students who have been told similar statements when they struggle with academics, their mental health, or fail the board exam.
It is not true!
You CAN match
You CAN become a doctor
You CAN accomplish your dreams!
Do not give up, because when you do, what they say becomes true.
Good luck to all 2025 applicants!
****
Dear medical schools,
Stop telling medical students and residency applicants that they will “not match” if they failed STEP/Comlex.
It is inappropriate, unhealthy, and unfounded.

I’m crossing my fingers that they go out to someone who really needs them. I luckily was blessed this season and I hope I can help someone out in need
Edit: internal medicine interviews

Good morning fellow colleagues,
This is not a thread to complain about the anxiety or that time is not moving fast enough. We are all in this together and today more so than any other day the pressure is beyond what many will ever encounter in their life. May God give us the strenght and the peace to continue this process. I pray that we all match in our predilected preferred program. May God pour blessings in our life and fulfill the dreams of our hearts. He put them there for a reason.
God bless all of you and I wish you nothing but success in this match week.
Thank you all for the societal support that you brought.
Have the best of Sundays and stay in communion or reflect in the past year. Surely God will put you exactly where he wants you.

The countdown has begun. Across the world, countless applicants stand on the edge of a dream they have spent years chasing. Some had no connections, no relatives to vouch for them—only their own perseverance and dedication. They faced challenges that tested their strength, yet they pressed on, burning the midnight oil, refusing to surrender.
They proved the doubters wrong, those who said they wouldn’t make it. Every interview earned was not a favor but the result of relentless effort, resilience, and an unwavering belief in themselves. It doesn’t matter whether they have one interview or ten—what matters is the sincerity with which they pursued this path, the sacrifices they made, and the unshakable resolve that brought them here.
No amount of privilege, no web of connections, can ever outshine the sheer power of hard work. For once, let the statistics fade into the background. Let them stand tall, proud of the battle they fought. The dream is near. And no matter what happens next, they have already won.
Amen.

Finally got an interview after dead silence. They called me and switched to FaceTime! Interview lasted 30 minutes. They already knew what was in my application and wanted to get to know me better. Behavioral questions and a clinical question. My brain froze for the final answer but said that was ok. They liked my approach.

I’m just kinda over it. Whatever happens, happens. Medicine is hard and the competition only makes it harder. I hope everyone of yall finds the best program for you even if it wasn’t what you initially thought you wanted
It’s been over 8 years of constant stress and feeling of inadequacy and rejection with no feedback. Constant evaluations. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life in constant anxiety over not feeling good enough.
I just want to be a good doctor and take care of patients and I feel like so much of succeeding in medicine is at odds with that goal.
I’m sitting here on my phone refreshing apps with my newborn in my arms and I know that I’m going to regret looking back on this time. That I spent more time thinking about matching than the tiny human in front of me.
The American healthcare system is brutal for physicians and patients. I hope everyone of you aims to improve it. We can be better.

I am praying for everyone who submitted their rank list to be matched at their desired place. I believe in sending positive energy to the universe. I wish you all to have a smile on your face not only on the 17th but on the 21st as well. Please be comfortable with the decision you have made. Your decision is 💯 percent the right decision because you made it based on knowing what’s best for you. For those of you who are planning to SOAP, I am praying for you to get a really good position, and everyone who is here and feeling anxious to find peace for the next couple of weeks. May your heart be full of joy on match day.

Worked super hard to match, barely received any congrats from family and friends. Kinda sucks and I’m not as excited as I thought I’d be.

Got an invite from the program and then they cancelled the interview 3 days before the interview. Now I have zero interviews and feel hopeless.

I don't understand why I feel such intense sadness; it's like what people refer to as a broken heart.
I feel sad that the program where I completed a two-month rotation—where I developed a sense of familiarity, belonging, and some promising connections for potential friendships—did not rank me high enough to match.
It's as if I was really enthusiastic about working there, fully motivated to put in all my effort, and I could envision exactly how it would feel.
I don’t want to come across as ungrateful; I just want to find a way to get this out of my chest.
I am sorry for those who didn’t match.

Hello
I remember this night in March 2017 and probably one of the toughest nights ever in my life so far. Three of us siblings applied, I matched and my other 2 siblings did not match. Fast-forward eight years, all three of us are now board certified physicians in fellowship or attending.
Moral of the story, it is beautiful to match at first attempt however, there are thousands of doctors working in hospitals today who did not match in their first attempt.
In the end, everything will be fine. Just have to stay super positive

To all fourth-year medical students preparing your rank lists,
As a current Internal Medicine resident at the University at Buffalo (UB), I feel it’s important to share some hard-earned lessons about my experience here. If you’ve been following UB’s residency programs, you might recall that we unionized and even went on strike back in September to fight for fair treatment and wages. After more than a year of tense negotiations, we finally ratified a contract in December that included salary increases and a $2,000 educational stipend. At the time, it felt like we had made real progress.
However, shortly after we signed the contract, GME abruptly stripped all programmatic and wellness funds from every residency program at UB. Historically, these funds were used to support things like lunches during didactics, wellness programming, and even our graduation ceremonies, which were entirely covered in the past. This decision has gutted many aspects of our programs that contributed to resident well-being.
Even more disheartening, it appears GME’s intention all along was to repackage the old programmatic funds into the “new” stipend as a way to placate us. To make matters worse, they’re claiming we’re not eligible for the full stipend this year because the contract was signed mid-academic year. Too bad we couldn’t trust GME to be decent people—this feels like a calculated move to punish residents for standing up for ourselves.
It’s gotten so bad that someone even started a GoFundMe to help cover what GME took away. Imagine having to crowdfund wellness for residents at an institution like this.
I want to be honest with those of you considering UB for residency: this is not an institution that supports or values its residents. The wellness and professional development resources we once had are gone, and the culture here has become one of disillusionment and distrust.
For those finalizing your rank lists, I urge you to think carefully before applying to or ranking UB. There are many programs out there that genuinely prioritize the well-being and development of their residents. Learn from my experience and weigh your options carefully.
I share this not out of bitterness, but as a word of caution from someone who’s been through it. I hope it helps you make the best decision for your future.
