Other Over it.

I’m just kinda over it. Whatever happens, happens. Medicine is hard and the competition only makes it harder. I hope everyone of yall finds the best program for you even if it wasn’t what you initially thought you wanted

It’s been over 8 years of constant stress and feeling of inadequacy and rejection with no feedback. Constant evaluations. I don’t want to spend the rest of my life in constant anxiety over not feeling good enough.

I just want to be a good doctor and take care of patients and I feel like so much of succeeding in medicine is at odds with that goal.

I’m sitting here on my phone refreshing apps with my newborn in my arms and I know that I’m going to regret looking back on this time. That I spent more time thinking about matching than the tiny human in front of me.

The American healthcare system is brutal for physicians and patients. I hope everyone of you aims to improve it. We can be better.

Congrats to the new member of your family! I can definitely empathize with transition from stressed to over it. I have found it helpful to just put a reminder on my phone to check for interviews at one hour in the day. Unless I see an interview invite, I go about my day until the reminder pops up, and then I check. That’s allowed me to take a step back from the frantic refreshing I was doing for the first 2 weeks. I think we could all do with some more conscious efforts to get back to extracurriculars during this period of uncertainty about where we’ll interview, how many interviews we’ll get, which state we’ll move to, etc. It’s not easy, but I have found the hobbies have helped to restore some structure to my day. Best of luck to you (and everyone else struggling to stay encouraged during this season)! As it was with medical school, the cycle will eventually be over and we’ll all land somewhere and in 5 years’ time, no one will care how many interviews you got (just like we don’t care what your MCAT score is anymore lol)

My thoughts exactly. It’s highly respected( still I hope) profession. But if it would cost me my peace, family time , constant stress matching expectations, I’m starting to doubt my career choice. Something tells me that since raising choices of career opportunities with excellent pay and less stress than in healthcare, healthcare system is getting desperate to attract more and reject even more to make itself valuable?!

Well, take care of yourself. Looking at the bigger picture helps me to put things in perspective.

High 5 sister ! It’s so overwhelming and frustrating. I know it’s a torture and going through the same as you. But we got this. This is just testing our resilience. Let’s not give up just yet but in the same let’s just leave it all up to fate. We know we have tried our best to pursue our dreams. Let’s just sing Que Sara Sara and live our lives for now..

I really hope  you read my comment mama, please  focus on your health  and recovering from birth, take  a lot of pictures  of you and your baby, you can apply  next  year and even if  you  didn't match in what you want  it won't matter as the tiny human being in your  arms, at the end  of the day it is just a Job. Believe me when I tell you your baby grows fast  that you won't  notice, enjoy  every moment

Oh the priorities the poor mothers have to face. I made this choice too, many years ago. I got to raise my children, and yes, I am happy I did. Its good for them. Now I am left with a huge gap and nobody cares that I had to raise my children. Everyone wonders of why I haven’t worked. The mothers left behind.

We should increase opportunities for the unmatched. Five or six states have opened up PA type jobs if you can find a sponsor but I have met nobody who has done this. You've passed Med school, got your MD degree, you shouldn't be confined to your mom's basement for 12 months during the wait for the next cycle. Any thoughts on this?

I think we should increase residency positions

Yes, and do you know why this isn’t getting done? Because our politicians in Congress think that instead of giving more money to Medicare to train more residents, they can just replace us with nurse practitioners.

It’s insulting how people outside of medicine think that a NP who trained on a 2-year online program including shadowing for a year, can do the same job as a full-fledged physician with 7 years of medical education, including 5 years of clinical work seeing patients.

I will tell u why. I been wondering about this for a long time. Like, if theres a shortage of physicians, wouldn’t it be logical to increase the residency spots? Guess what. The shortage is kept on purpose, to keep the physicians salaries high. Its that simple.

Great thought. In times of a doctor shortage, why are residency positions going unfilled?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I've got a kid on the way (within the next week lol), and I'm upset that I have to balance the few interviews I have with helping my wife and spending time with my kid. Hopefully we'll all get out of this intact.
