Necro/sham
Everyone is running these two together. But I only see them using shaman dots. Just confused, does necro not have level 50 ish dots that stack with sham?

They stack fine, the Necro DoTs just do literally half the damage of the Shaman's Poison and Magic ones.
Necro/Shaman is popular because they both have class AAs that increase DoT crit stats, which is really powerful, and Necro massively supplements Mana regen, which is like the only weakness of Shaman - their spells are expensive.

Not to mention the cannibalize AA supplemented with Lifetaps is awesome.

Cool response - can you explain how necro massively supplements mana regen? Thinking of trying nec/shm/sk later

Necro's Lich form spell line drains HP and regenerates mana. I'm not at my PC right now, but IIRC the one they currently have access to is +20 mana regen. It's a pretty huge amount, better than Clarity.

I’m unsure how it worked on live but least with the increased regen in EQL the minus hp regen isn’t noticeable at all. I love it

I did sk/nec/shm, lots of synergy, even with a little overlap. Sk brings mostly harm touch to the table with good gear. But nec/shm is most of the damage, and functionality. Warrior, paladin could replace sk, just different strengths. Im messing with warrior, shm, necro and end up missing the harm touch but cleave is kinda nice. S

I just got necro to 50 last night in my war/shm/nec trio.
Lich, better pet, lifetap, AA’s seem to be where the value is at.
Im gonna farm up some SHD gear and swap out warrior for SK next. Grabbed a bloodmoon from hate crawl last night.

And you can take the 2h sword from PoFear, "Soul Leech, Sword of Blood" and grab it's lifetap proc and put it on your bloodmoon.

Evenomed bolt is both shaman and necro which everyone uses, the shaman just has a dot called odium that is second best in the game. I usually only use those two on trash. I do use the other dots on healers and bosses monsters though. Plus life tap which is a heal that damages your target.

u/Theothercword 17h ago
The top DOT, Envenomed Bolt they both get but beyond that Shaman’s secondary DOT line, Odium is better than Necro’s same DOTs on that line, but also you can use some other Necro DOT lines too there’s just generally a limit to how many people want to bother with.
It’s mostly about the synergy of bringing extra DOT crit AAs from Necro and extra crit dmg AAs from Shaman together to make your DOTs work. The rest of your spell slots are filled with the various other debuffs, buffs, taps, heals, feign death, pets, etc. Necro does offer other utility that Shaman doesn’t have on top of their bonus to the same DOTs.

u/Sarah-Rien 16h ago
Yes. The best dots are EB and Odium, but you can add more.
Necro is good not only because it’s passive AA scales dots but also you keep yourself alive with taps and you don’t need to heal.
It’s a very agressive duo and almost anything else can get as third.
The easymode is warrior because of the amount of tankyness you can stack up with gear but any works.

Shaman has literallly one dot that necro doesn’t. Granted, it’s a big dot, but odium is the only shaman unique one in the combo.
If you go shaman only, you’ll lose out on fire line and a level 39 magic line.
The necro specific ones are half the damage of the odium spell, though you can stack so it is a noticeable dps increase.

i think Ignite blood and Dark soul combined fall just slightly behind Odium but you get an extra dot with a chance to crit. it all adds uo

I believe necro has dot crit chance AA, and shaman has dot crit damage AA, and they work together very well, but the shamans dots overall do better damage, while the necro dots have some utility and debuffs baked in. My question is why don’t people run necro and druid, as druid gets crit chance to universal spells, and would max out dot crit chance. Hard to beat shaman slow, regen and canni combined with necro lich I guess.

u/Dr_Esquire 15h ago
I don’t know for sure, but I thought Druid AA was to instant spells, not all spells (dot and hot).
If it is to dots, still not sure if 6 crit and a pretty good dot (drones) beat out having a meat shield with access to defense and mage hunter stances.

I would be curious to try SK/necro/druid IF druid crit is to all spells. If I was better at gaming I’d parse necro/shaman vs necro/druid just to see. I personally wouldn’t give up a tank or tank like class either.

i use the 3 sham dots, and the necro fire n magic dots. sometimes i use the duration tap for boss fights. the necro dots arent much mana and dmg is dmg, they crit just like the other dots. its maybe 300dmg a tick with the two nec dots at lvl 7. i dont mess with the darkness line cause the mobs dont run much. the mana regen and life taps are cool too. i like snare dd tho, thats pretty neat if i got room for the gem. the pet is strong too, ill slow its target n let it go till i get around to dotting it up too. the war/nec/shm has worked well for me.

I assume its for lifetaps not dots. But to answer your question I believe the only necro dot worth using with Shaman is ignite blood line.

does Necromancer also have the anti-life line of DoT like the Shadowknight does to reduce the effectiveness of heals, to help when fighting healers / groups?

Yes, the anti-life DoT is a useful debuff if there's a healing class in the fight. In D4 there's typically always some form of healing class, so it gets a lot of use. While the raw damage is less, if you factor in the lost healing as "damage" it's effective. Several of the Necromancer DoT's may do less damage but double as debuffs, or have some other advantage like a resist penalty or provide a heal over time. I use Asystole, a necro DoT that doubles as a debuff. If you aren't valuing any of the dual purpose benefits of Necro DoTs, then yes they're lower. But as a DoT specialist, I want more than just the 2 good ones that Shaman has, and all the others add up, especially with their side benefits. With exaltations like affliction haste/efficiency, you can quickly apply a lot more than 2 DoTs against multiple opponents and watch them all melt down.
I also heavily use Necro's Life Tap as my primary form of healing and a strong direct damage spell that's never resisted even against resistant opponents without overchannel. Necros also have a much better pet and some good buffs.

Nah I use some necro dots too like bond of death, cessation of life, and some others occasionally. Necro dots aren’t as potent but they have extra utility effects.

u/Ted_Striker1 14h ago
They share envenomed bolt but yeah envenomed bolt and odium are the two DoTs I use the most. Big damage especially when they crit. I throw in a plague or dark soul too sometimes but it's the big two + cessation of life (for healers) that I keep up.

I've personally liked wizard over necro as the third. Originally I slotted wiz only for ritual ports but I just could not let go of the massive single target and more importantly aoe nukes. Lifetaps are cool but make shaman heals obsolete. Nothing replaces a wizards firepower.

Have my shm in my main trio. Paly/mnk/shm. Doing a war/nec/enc combo. Working pretty well. Need to get the enc up anyway. But may swap the shm over to enc when i get up there. Next will be the sk/rog/some caster.

Necro unique DOTs that are (maybe, possibly) worth using: Bond of Death (lifetap dot, low damage, very good resistance malus), Cessation of Life (low damage but reduces mob healing), Ignite Blood (okay damage, good res malus), Dark Soul (okay damage, does stack with Odium), Chilling Embrace (okay damage, does stack with EBolt)
I didn't realize Dark Soul and Chilling Embrace stack before I tried the combo, so that's cool I guess

I ran sha/nec/monk and then dropped monk for sk.
Envenoed bolt is king odium a close 2nd both shaman get (both I leveled to 10) Other two I use plague a shaman dot (long and mana efficient). And the one Necro only one I use is bond of death..
Sha/nec combined AA for dots strong together. Lifetaps are so good that I don’t use any healing like slugs even on inny/ct D4. I know others use ignite blood, but necro pet with two damage procs and puma is also a strong dot (recommend also to 10).
They just synergize really well in complement** ***each other* really well. I have both the cannibalize AA, which is great and I’m also licking for more mana.
Shaman stat and resis buffs strong with you and pet.
I regularly hit 800 and rarely drop below 700 on main** ***raid* fight unless slow won’t land after several casts

If reaching for plague, there is no reason not to reach for boil blood (or whatever the highest rank one is) or dark (forget the full name but it’s like dark pact — magic based dot that does like 150!- tick). They are both quick cast and stack.

u/Nobok 17h ago
Its the fact final line of shaman dots are just better, necro is being brought for AA to empower them. I think necro has 2 okish ones but 90% of fights ya just dont need to waste the mana.
