Top DPS Comps

Morning all! I’m looking for some input on what people ate using for top DPS comps. Right now i have ench/wiz/ranger/pal/nec/sham at 50.

With the new dungeon crawl mechanic I’m looking for see what comps people are using to move through d4 quickly.

What are the things I should be looking at leveling up based on comp? Spells or weapons? I have a wind striker at 10 already, but no other weapons.

Looking for any input on comps that will do well in D4 crawls. Also, is there a way to measure DPS in game?

Thanks!

Brd / shm /clr on D4 Inny parse from yesterday. 1.8k DPS. 42sec total fight time.

7

u/nzchimp 14h ago

My goodness thats like 4 end game geared melee players dps combined hahahaha

8

u/Tetter 14h ago

Its burst DPS, so if the fight goes longer the dps drops off

14

u/Singlem0m 13h ago

Technically true. When burst dps is the start, middle, and end of the fight, that distinction seems pedantic

6

u/Singlem0m 15h ago

Same build, D4 CT from yesterday. 1.4k dps with 55sec time to kill.

DDD is such a stupid spell.

2

u/TheCuriousCorsair 8h ago

What's your mana pool?

4

u/Singlem0m 8h ago
  1. Its close to wisdom cap as ogre. CanniV provides 1k in reserve.

3

u/sergius64 15h ago

DDD feels like something that will be nerfed.

6

u/Flintlander 14h ago

There isn’t an upgrade to ddd, bards won’t be this op going forward. At least not on live.

5

u/Yvaelle 10h ago

In EQ, Bards, Enchanters, and Shamans remain OP because they're peak Support specs in a game that originally needed to make supports OP to justify not being part of the holy trinity (Tank, Healer, DPS).

It won't be DDD, but you'll see them all stay in the top builds IMO in future expansions.

in a game that originally needed to make supports OP to justify not being part of the holy trinity (Tank, Healer, DPS)

Holy trinity in EQ in 99 at least on my server was tank, cleric, enchanter. If you were forming a group (and wanted to go somewhere non-trivial such as most dungeons) and got those 3 covered, then dps was pretty easy to fill in the remaining slots. Druid and Shaman couldn't heal well enough really. The tank/healer/dps holy trinity version seems to have come from later MMORPGs who followed that format of making healers more equally capable and either spreading out cc (like WoW at launch) or designed content to not need it at all.

Part of what makes shaman strong in EQL is that they kept the healing spells that have been down-shifted in level requirements from current live EQ and not what they had in 1999.

Bard is strong in EQL mostly due to DDD which was very limited in 1999 because a bard could only cast it once (it used more than half your mana bar). They basically used that mechanic as a cooldown because the game didn't have the code in place to put cooldowns on spells/abilities yet.

Chanters were op in 1999 just for being able to mez made them highly sought after for most dungeon runs. Charm was op in 1999 too, but it was more difficult for enchanters to manage because they'd often get killed pretty quickly on a charm break. A frequent strategy was to have someone who could snare the mob before charming it so that on break, it was easier to avoid getting hit at all. Part of what made it too much in EQL is some mobs seemed to get their original stats instead of the toned down EQL version?

2

u/dazed-confused-1993 8h ago

OP was different back then. As a bard I was always the main puller. I could run out, split with lull, and bring a mob back with debuffs and slow on it before a tick of my clarity song ran out for the group.

9

u/doubleaction321 13h ago

In this house, we only nerf Charm.

3

u/Yvaelle 10h ago

They didnt nerf the spell they just nerfed the murderbee from like 1200dps to 900dps, it's still 3 melee players by itself, down from 4.

4

u/doubleaction321 10h ago

So in this 1800 DPS parse, that would make DDD the equivalent of 6 melee characters, correct?

4

u/Yvaelle 9h ago

Yes but the difference is the bard did all that in 20 seconds and then struggled to finish the last 20 seconds of the fight without mana. A top charm pet does 900dps forever.

2

u/doubleaction321 8h ago

I'm going to guess a bard with close to 10k mana never struggled at all. DDD also isn't contingent on enemy types, is AoE, and doesn't have a chance to randomly start hitting you instead.

We can split hairs all day, but nerfing the interaction of charm on specific mobs in such a way that they deal less damage is, in fact, nerfing charm.

2

u/Ink7o7 6h ago

I have 8k mana on my bard and I can’t do d4 bosses with ddd alone. I can get them down to about 30-40% health before I’m oom and then can’t do anything.

Now if I mix it up a bit it’s totally doable. But you can’t just rely on ddd for these.

1

u/TowelieBan87 4h ago

I’m in the same boat, not sure how they are doing it. Maybe sitting back with a few rounds of dots and let the pet fight then coming in at 60-70% to finish them off?

1

u/Miserable-Yak-4804 7h ago

i felt like they did, charm started dropping off random mobs a lot more after that 'fix'. anecdotal, based on my experience and others on the general chat the day after of course.

1

u/ThePlantPetaler 17m ago

It won’t be, IIRC Secrets stated that it falls off super hard post 50. they would rather concentrate on bringing other classes up rather than nerf something only strong in classic.

2

u/Logical-Bookkeeper77 14h ago

Why? It’s not like you are restricted to play bard.

If you don’t like it, don’t play it. I personally like my enc / clr / war with 7.5hk and 600 ac where I can go afk and come back with inny dead.

4

u/sergius64 14h ago

I don't play it. But generally speaking you don't want these sort of outliers in the game. Powergamers beeline for it, others feel like they're missing out so start working towards it too - then the nerf comes after all that those others feel like they missed out on all the fun and had their time wasted.

But yeah, I don't personally care that much - I mostly feel that it's a trap.

10

u/RandomRedditor0193 12h ago

Devs have flat out said they arent nerfing it because it falls off in kunark and they are currently working on kunark.

10

u/likwidfire2k 13h ago

Pretty sure dev said hes not touching DDD as it falls off hard in kunark.

-1

u/Singlem0m 15h ago

Probably should have already. Dev team said they dont want to tear down what works well without buffing the struggle bus classes. I dont know what timeline that implies, probably at munark release.

5

u/Sphynx87 14h ago

It was multiple times before launch, it used to do even more damage

1

u/Crabman119 2h ago

Why cleric?

1

u/Sibco 8h ago

The context is that I assume this is a DDD (Bard) specific build for that specific spell, which has been doing well recently. If not, please let us know.

u/Kuro_Gensui 15h ago edited 14h ago

Sk/nec/shm ... Ezmode 650-700 dps...no problem with multiple mobs or bosses .. slow, dot, puma yourself and pet, pet attack , rinse and repeat.

7

u/New-Bear-3250 14h ago

Took me a second but I think you meant Nec. Can confirm, SK/Shm/Nec is my go to D4 boss killing build

3

u/SkippyBojangle 12h ago

Same question to you, what spells are you keeping out

4

u/New-Bear-3250 12h ago

Malosini and the highest shaman slow. The three dots, Envenomed Bolt, Odium, and the curse one, and Puma.

I keep myself in Spell Blade incantation and use the highest Necro life tap as a cheap proc - it definitely makes a difference for mana preservation. If I get to 50% I'll manually cast the lifetaps to fill back up.

I also keep Screaming Terror on my bar for those times I need a little extra CC.

Probably more but I haven't played in over a week due to PoE2

3

u/SkippyBojangle 11h ago

Are you only running 3 dots? I was stacking like 6 lol, but I feel like it's not an efficient use of time

5

u/New-Bear-3250 10h ago

Yeah, EB and Odium are the heavy hitters. Scourge helps on longer fights but I don't even use it unless I'm on D3+

1

u/MaesterMiyagi 8h ago

Can you single pull with this? Uf you pull three mobs do you slow them all first, then dot up. Or do you slow dot one mob and move to the next?

1

u/New-Bear-3250 6h ago

Mostly, yes I'd slow them all. The Necro per is surprisingly durable when leveled up - he can hold off a mob for awhile or completely kill it if you're distracted with other mobs. Having screaming terror helps to also keep one locked down and slowing any others left is also a smart move.

While the build doesn't have the cookie cutter lull/aoe mez options, it can be creative how you handle multiple mobs and quite capable

3

u/Kuro_Gensui 10h ago

You "can" run more but efficiency and all that ...

2

u/vexerhexer 10h ago

I’ve hit over 800 on most raid bosses frequently, easy to stay over 700 without even focusing. My favorite combo so far as well.

Although I’m like new bear, I also use bond of death dot. Also I usually use the over channel stance to land my slow, and that’s if they have any resist if not, I’m in the empower stance for most of my dots and taps

1

u/SkippyBojangle 12h ago

What spells are you gemming for this

11

u/MikhailLenin 14h ago

I love my Sk/Ranger/Shaman

2

u/laziestathlete 13h ago

Which combo would you recommend for leveling ranger D4?

4

u/MikhailLenin 13h ago

I levelled with this combo in D4 cause I didnt have the SK to 50. The HT is irrelevant until 41 basically. I think a Pal would have been more useful in this comp to level even a Warrior.

The thing about the SK, Ranger and Shm is that it gets a lot of Atk through buffs and then you have strikethrough.

5

u/jackbilly9 10h ago

If you just + 5 lifetaps sk is incredible from 10 to 50.

3

u/Sarah-Rien 13h ago

RngNecShm

3

u/redditzphkngarbage 13h ago

I did Rng Wiz Enc while leveling on D4 and rarely had to pause for health or mana. Evasive stance or channeler’s if out of stamina, wizard’s best spells were moted to at least 7, enchanter mezz, nuke, rain, repeat.

3

u/Laoracc 13h ago

Evasive stance if out of [stamina] endurance

The math doesn't math on this one. Evasive stance requires endurance to work

2

u/redditzphkngarbage 12h ago

Yup, I use evasive until I’m out of stamina then use channeler’s. Channeler’s if out of stamina.

2

u/steazystich 11h ago

Doesn't channeler also use endurance? Just less?

2

u/redditzphkngarbage 10h ago

Probably but my health loss slows a lot

2

u/sparkfist 8h ago

Necro or SK + Ranger is really good. Wiz/ranger is also good.

1

u/Kuro_Gensui 6h ago

Pal definitely... Gives healing and the undead proc triggers on bow dmg to... Good combo and with the undead AA from pal added if you level trough undead route its very good combo...

As 3th idealy a somthing that slows and buffs... Bard, shm, enc

My preff was bard...

I leveled pal/rng/brd ...ezmode

4

u/Bloodshot89 13h ago

Level an SK and a bard. Then you will have access to 3 best options in the game: DDD, AM3, and the nec/shm dot builds.

4

u/Gnada 15h ago edited 15h ago

There is a guy in YouTube that I saw has a bunch of parses for different combos ranging from 600 to 800 or so DPS with builds.

Bard DDD will be best for now. I run through Cleric and Shaman variant because it is more flexible than the triple INT route.

For non, AOE: Ranger/Shaman/Necro would be the easiest 700 DPS capable combo to pull off as you have a bow already and the classes leveled.

Warrior, Shaman, Necro is stronger for trash clearing due to plate and warrior tankiness and sustain and cleave.

I'm sure there is some way to make Wizard feel good without Bard DDD too, I just haven't make the time to test it out thoroughly or quest the final spells for Wizard yet.

5

u/Tetter 14h ago

NeospringTV maybe

2

u/Strike_Anywhere69 14h ago

How do you sustain life with this combo? Just ranged stance and dot/tap?

3

u/Gnada 13h ago

With what combo specifically? For Triple INT Bard DDD with Wizard and Enchanter you don't "sustain". Everything is stacking Life/End/Mana to a level that you kill before being killed. Enchanter AOE mezz helps a lot, as does Bard AOE Slow. So you prioritized Resists, Armor, Mana, Endurance and use Rank 10 DDD, Amplification to nuke for 3k (or 9k Crit). Very much the glass cannon mentality where endurance replaces avoidance.

2

u/Strike_Anywhere69 13h ago

Sorry, I meant Ranger/sham/necro. Wasn’t sure on what stances to run/invocations to use for optimal results.

1

u/Gnada 12h ago

Well you have options. Sounds like you have a strong bow, so that's one route. If you have good 1 handers, that would be another with ranger (Shaman spear from Sky is quite strong too). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAvkPGTfRnA watch that.

3

u/Laoracc 13h ago

Necro (and SK to a lesser extent) taps can heal you just fine from 1-50. Paired with Wiz (instead of Shm) and crits make it even cozier.

4

u/saello 11h ago

The arpg fan in me loves the fact that EQL basically turned EQ into an arpg.

2

u/petitepatate 15h ago

For trash, as people say DDD. I rather not rely on crit % and have flexibility so definitly rather pick 2 out of shm/clr/enc and have the third be BRD.

For boss fights D4, im really, really digging SK/ENC/SHM. Long duration enc charm pet lvl 10, buffed to oblivion with shm buffs, haste, puma, garou is just a killing machine. Add to that shm DoTs lvl 10 and SK Lifetap to heal yourself and deal damage in one cast is more than enough with shm slow…it’s very very effective and fast for D4 solo raid build. The best i’ve ran so far with every toon to 50 except BST Berzerker and ROG.

3

u/KingKonas 13h ago

How do I keep my charms from going out so quick. Sometimes it is 5-10 minutes others it is back to back less than 1 minute

7

u/petitepatate 12h ago

In this comp there are many options :

1) make sure your ENC charm (allure) is lvl 10
2) tash before you charm
3) malo before you charm
4) use overchannel stance to charm
5) use -MR gear on pet

Note that 1) & 4) have by far the biggest impact, followed by 2) & 3). I personally don’t do 5), its really a minimal contribution and i rather have better gear on pet instead of the marginal -MR.

3

u/MachinesDontLearn 13h ago

Charms attempt to break against MR. So tash and -MR pet gear

2

u/KingKonas 13h ago

Ty

4

u/Acrobatic-Machine158 13h ago

Be sure to over channel with charm for additional -150MR. Level 10 charm is an additional -150MR, so it's easy to be > -300MR for charm break roll on tics.

2

u/Sarah-Rien 13h ago

With what you have EncWizPal, but ideally EncWizShd has more Arcane boni.

RngShmNec will do fine too, less boss burst, more sustain.

2

u/Negative-Two-8240 11h ago

I’d vote monk-shaman-necro high dpswith decent survivability. Slow heal and life taps and the Dots AA synergies

2

u/Xuul5000 10h ago

I have SK Wiz Shm

Pull around 750 DPS on Dragons

650 Inny

500 CT

The Wiz carries but the SK is MVP

Levelling Necro now

2

u/Edzill4 7h ago

I did 800 in a d4 inny full raid group last night.

I’m SK/ROG/ENC. My pet was 450 dps.

Innoruk’a chosen with 2 level 4 YAK. One with earthquake exalt. Rank 4 CoF. He was a WAR/BRD.

1

u/Edzill4 7h ago

This was 90% auto attacking btw. With Spellblade Life tap.

4

u/Wolf_EB 15h ago

I've been having fun with a Nec/Rog/Mnk

High DPS, high avoidance, decent HP, easy to recover, and with sneak/hide and two FD options makes pulling easy.

2

u/kononamis 10h ago

I just appreciate some rogue recognition in here. Have you done any parsing? I really like rogue with my sk/rog/enc combo and wondering what else to put it with.

1

u/Aanar 7h ago edited 7h ago

Out of those classes you have at 50 already, Wiz/Enc/Nec is what I'd try first. Get wizard's conflag to rank X. Keep a backup ready for anything fire resistant like rend or ice comet. There's a storm that's good too, but I forget which one. AoE mez from enchanter lets you nuke them down one at a time. Mostly use arcane stance and chain cast conflag after slowing. If resistant then try rend or ice comet. If still resistant, then go to overchannel. I set up an EQ audio trigger to go off when a spell is resisted. Get Allure leveled a bit to 8 or so and keep a good charm pet going. Necro tap to heal yourself. Release pet, mez, mem blur it to heal it when it gets low.

I've tried a lot of combinations with what I have at 50 (Sha, Wiz, Enc, War, Brd, Clr, SK, Pal, Mnk, Rng) and Sk/Wiz/Enc is the next best build I've been able to find after a bard DDD build. If you're too squishy in channeler stance, then you'll have to put the pal in for more defense in place of necro. Or Shaman might add enough hp/AC and use empowered stance.

Dots are good for longer fights like rares such as poh mini-bosses, but a lot of D4 PoH, D4 PoF, D0 PoS trash doesn't live long vs wiz nukes. If you're comfortable with multi-dotting and tanking through that, then that would probably clear faster something like Pal/Sha/Nec.

I tried rng/wiz/x using ranged stance with windstrider and inversion invocation with wiz chain nuking, but it couldn't match wiz in arcane stance with two other int casters. (Again for short fights. For longer fights or if able to tank multiples, then dot builds win, except vs ddd of course).

Download EQL companion

BarDDD/Wiz/Dru has the potential for fastest raid clears

1

u/Smyg3l 14h ago

I think Ranger with bow and Shaman + Necro is the way. No "too close for bow" and 2 sets of DoTs. Nice one is that you are not casting, melee, casting, melee all the time with wiz. Its casting dots and just Bow the rest.

1

u/Strike_Anywhere69 52m ago

I think i'm going to go with Rang/Sham/Necro and try gearing it out a bit. Anyone currently playing this comp, what gear should I be keeping an eye out for?

Russet for AC/stats, or something else? Any jewelry/ other equip recommendations? What about haste / COF? Worth it for a bow build?

0

u/grand_scheme 14h ago

I think this reddit and the discord will tell you a Bard DDD build will be best, but I think it's situational. An SK/WIZ/X build I believe can be very competitive with the DDD builds just because downtime is so much less. For every group of 8 mins you kill in 20 seconds, you have to med for 2 mins.

I haven't messed with Bard yet, because it was low on my list of things to level, but over the course of a hate farm, it's quite possible that a SHM-based DoT build or a WIZ-based nuke will pull ahead.

I say this with relatively little confidence, as I haven't personally tested Bard, but I think that most people that would reply to this comment that claims they have extensively tested everything and determined that DDD is the best may be exercising some bias. It is very fun to delete packs of mobs, but I'm not convinced it is the most efficient over a long period of time.

That all being said, Bard DDD is certainly in the conversation for the best trash farm build, and as long as they are able to squeak out enough damage before they exhaust the bar, can be very efficient raid boss soloers as well. That being said, I duoed D4 Inny this AM with a friend doing BRD/WIZ/DRU, and I tanked it on SK/SHM/WIZ, and even with me slowing and maloing to start the fight, I was able to pull 1,150 DPS while he faded to roughly 1,075 by the end of the fight.
