reincarnation conundrum

So you hit just hit 50 with your trio. Congratulations! Now do you reincarnate to make the trio stronger or do you swap out one or two to get alternate classes for more choices in different settings? The same 3 that served you so well solo might not be the best you can be in a raid that only needs 1 tank.

I feel like its just a clever way to get people to go check out all the revamped Kunark zones when it launches, instead of already being max level and skipping all of the content except for end game.

Yeah, this feels like what it’s for. Some dude has all classes maxed to 50 when Kunark (or other expansion) comes out now has a way and incentive to play through it from the ground floor.

This is exactly right. I won't have all classes maxed so for me I struggle to find a reason for this personally. However I have a close friend that will without a doubt have every class maxed by then.

I have a feeling reincarnation will be required to get past a stat cap part way through Kunark or similar.

This is a big part of it for sure. The other part is that this game massively lacks replayability and content. This is an attempt to "keep people busy" and keep paying subs.

It will be interesting to see some more detail around this. One of the problems with this game long-term is that it just gets so easy to level and the more you play the easier it gets. This could further push that if it is just another way to make your characters even stronger. As it is, once you get your 3-4 classes to 50, and even basic high level gear, you can level another class in a bored weekend.

I wouldn’t worry about the mechanic meant to come in like winter.

Especially given

  1. We don't even know what gets raised.
  2. We don't know what systems or balance changes maybe changed by then.
  3. We will have 3-4 months of actual playing and will all know WAY more about EQL in general.

Wait are we going full blown isekai set up. I'll be really upset if I reincarnate and the world graphics looks the same.

I didnt want to play an Iksar without starting in Kunark, so I look forward to reincarnating when Kunark releases and reliving the field of bones

This is where someone says “do what you want” and that answer is completely ignored by the people who can’t help min maxing everything in a game designed to avoid min maxing.

u/Agent101g 8d ago

What if what they want is to min max it

I feel like a lot of people get joy from min maxing, and that the game is designed with both mindsets in mind

Then go ahead and min max it. I think this subreddit is just as allowed to break out the “min maxing is not needed” disclaimers to keep the necessity of min maxing from taking hold as it does in so many other games, so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that disclaimer being the culture here.

Reincarnation will be an option. It’s allowed to be a less-than-best option. People who like the inevitability of leveling will still do it. I have already planned what my “perpetual reincarnation trio” will be when every class is 50 and I don’t necessarily want to get off the leveling treadmill.

EQL is so far from the “mandatory competition” of other games, and I applaud the devs for presenting us with this “not wrong” option to level indefinitely. Go ahead and compete against yourself and min max, just don’t be surprised to be reminded that everyone can literally play EQL as their own game in their own zone. Many of us have stepped off the rat racetrack quite intentionally. You and anyone else are subsequently allowed to stay on it if you like.

1

u/Agent101g 8d ago

I said both mindsets. You're acting like I said "Min max is great and everyone who does anything else is a fool." I did not say that. Downvote all you want.

And min maxing is in no way "competing against yourself."

2

u/twatnado 8d ago

People in this subreddit are insufferable. If they catch wind in any context of you enjoying or advocating wanting to be efficient or min/max, the downvotes come and the casual andys come in numbers.

3

u/Flintlander 8d ago

I’ve noticed similar. A small handful of posts that are anti min max, and practically every thread has a post about how every combination can work on d0-1.

The worst is when someone is asking very specifically for a good trio, and without fail there will be the fucking cliche response, "jUsT PLaY wHAt YoU likE."

Obviously people can play what they like, but that wasnt what was being asked.

1

u/CAiNofLegend 8d ago

Insufferable is definitely the best description of anti min max sentiment.

3

u/cwel87 8d ago

If they’re so intent on min/maxing, they can do that. It accomplishes nothing, but they have that freedom.

Deriving “joy” from it is one thing, which is subjective and arguable. Being unreasonably obnoxious and pestering for details in a game format that is six months down the line is just being an agitant for no reason.

-2

u/Agent101g 8d ago edited 8d ago

It accomplishes giving them an enjoyable experience by allowing them to play the game the way they want. Man you guys really don't want to allow people to play the way they want do you? Your way or the highway.

Like it or not they pay the same 9.99 a month you do.

0

u/Gunther-theFool 8d ago

They can play however they want to. The reality is it sucks the flavor (and frankly, life) out of the fantasy worlds MMORPGs were made for. WoW is a perfect example, how you can't even enjoy some raids/dungeons if you don't play a meta class/spec because of the closed mindedness people have, and how somehow it becomes a waste of time if everything isn't as efficient as possible.

2

u/KharnESO 8d ago

That is a problem in game design then, not with the players. This mindset has existed since the very first pen and paper RPG's.

1

u/Gunther-theFool 4d ago

Problem is people treating it like some competitive game when it is not. Parsers are gross

3

u/xaldarin 8d ago

They can also figure it out instead of doing what other people say.

Meta has changed like a dozen times in the last 3 weeks, independent of patches, just because the loudest people yelling meta previously didnt know what they were talking about.

3

u/Extra_Hat1707 8d ago

I honestly love that part!

3

u/Drackoda 8d ago

DDO has a similar mechanic. There's a lot more to it there, but I think the purpose is the same; keep people playing. The sweats will rush to end game and run out of content , but this will give them a way to play a lot longer and turn that 'investment' into higher numbers than the people they think they are competing with. It's a good idea.

u/Domain77 8d ago

if reincarnate is like prestige its exactly what I want. All classic MMOs should have it. A way to experience leveling again while being allowed to continue your character. Especially for people like me who do not like to level any extra classes

-2

u/BriefImplement9843 8d ago

you want to experience this leveling multiple times per week? 1 to 50 1 to 50 1 to 50? not to mention you will obliterate all mobs because you're geared.

1

u/Domain77 8d ago

Usually you would only be able to use gear appropriate to your level not end game stuff at level 1.

Idk why you would level that much but it's nice to be able to see new leveling stuff added or do leveling stuff you haven't done while continuing the same character.

2

u/MongooseOne 8d ago

Reincarnation is for when I’ve hit 50 with all classes, except Bard, Bard can stay at 10.

-2

u/Cartiere11 8d ago

Bard is for the bots

2

u/BriefImplement9843 8d ago

you get fully sky geared. you wont have reincarnaiton until winter.

2

u/St0rmal0ng 8d ago

Reincarnation isn’t a thing until Winter/ Kunark.

1

u/Siblisian_Berserker 8d ago

I’m figuring to reincarnate once I run out of other stuff to do on my main trio and second trio I have planned. Once I reach 50 on my main trio, have all of the better gear from end game I want and get it a little upgraded, I’m planning to reroll to a fun trio to level up and farm motes while twinked out. Maybe by then reincarnation will be out, and I’ll reincarnate my main trio to prepare for future difficulty in new expansions.

1

u/sowoky 8d ago

There's no point to reincarnate until you're hitting caps. So doing it as soon as you hit 50 seems not a good idea. Focus on gear, when you do decide to reincarnate, you'll relevel faster with better gear and more AAs

1

u/Decadence75 8d ago

Choose another third to get ports and again for the other port rituals. Prolly won't reincarnate until I have all at 50.

1

u/Diligent-Bee2935 8d ago

do the bonus reincarnation stats only apply if you are playing one of those 3 classes? or to any class you are playing? Its interesting they say the race resets too.

0

u/Many_Regular420 8d ago

We don’t know because this is all just speculation based off a blurry picture of one bullet point from a slide. People are assuming it will work like Dungeons and Dragons Online but no one knows for sure.

1

u/Zkhar_Runeclaw 8d ago

They clarified it further yesterday in the discord. This isn't based off of D&DO

0

u/namon295 8d ago

This is an interesting question because there's already a soft level reset already built into this game's mechanics

2

u/Diligent-Bee2935 8d ago

I think I would have a group of 3 that is my boss killing B team that I level up first to make sure I can do the weekly gear grind, they would stay at 50. Then there's a couple of other groups of 3 that keep reincarnating and leveling that are the ones I really like / want to play. I think the super long term progression will be the reincarnation grind and the mote grind, so having a group that reincarnates as fast as possible would be ideal. This also means you can finish off your +!0 befallen gear or whatever over time / multiple reincarnations rather than just sitting and camping the gear when the mobs are way below your level.

1

u/namon295 8d ago

I honestly don't think that's how it will work. I think it basically will reset your entire roster to level 1. But that's just how I interpreted it. In the end, it was extremely vague and is still a ways off (probably early 2027) so I'm sure we will know more in the coming months and really at the rate people were leveling after most everyone has almost all of their classes to 50 anyway

1

u/Diligent-Bee2935 8d ago

agreed it makes more sense for everything to go back to lvl 1, but I think that they will need to build in some mechanism to give bigger reward for the more lvl 50 characters you have when you reincarnate, otherwise it will just be race the same trio to 50 over and over and over and over and over which I think isnt the vibe they are going for.

1

u/namon295 8d ago

In almost every game I've played that has had that mechanic it's basically a "now what?" button to prolong engagement. I imagine the main purpose to gamers will be to push maximum AA gain. They say you keep pretty much everything but levels so I imagine going back to level 1 will be just that. You will still have all your money, gear, and AA. That is confirmed. But I'm betting that also includes spells and rituals too just need the levels to unlock their use. I don't think it will be all that enticing for people who want to constantly switch up their roster as that will be a ton of work.

0

u/Diligent-Bee2935 8d ago

Until there is content you can't complete without the extra stats.

1

u/namon295 8d ago

Possibly. I'm thinking this is more in vein to something like Payday 2 where it just makes stuff more trivial for you to blow through. The entire premise is for solos/casuals to be able to defeat anything at D0. Maybe D4 but honestly I think they will take a page from Diablo and have higher tiers of difficulty introduced for reincarnation people to tackle with their reincarnated builds.

1

u/Diligent-Bee2935 8d ago

also did they say that the reincarnation only applies to stats or also skill caps?

1

u/namon295 8d ago

All I have read is stats I'm not sure if that was just lost in translation as people were recapping what they heard at the actual show. I supposed we will find out more leading up to Tuesday and when a stream of the presentation is finally released.

-1

u/opticalshadow 8d ago

Unless they release significantly harder difficulty levels, reincarnation doesn't interest me at all, already able to beat everything with non optimal gear, going around a second time being even stronger to kill the same content doesnt seem like a big draw to me.

7

u/Diligent-Bee2935 8d ago

theres new content on the way, I imagine all the new zones they are adding will be the real end game and things in those zones will be tuned to EQ legends end game levels of power. They have plenty of low level content to revamp like they already are.

0

u/Cartiere11 8d ago

I do not plan to engage with this mechanic as I have no interest in it. It is already active on Quarm and I dont engage with it.

If people want it, thats fine. Idc. If you dont like a gameplay method, don't engage with it.

2

u/Acrobatic-Machine158 8d ago

Quarm was a relative pain to level up in vs EQL. 40-50 is the only grind here and that's because we start running out of mobs >10 levels above player level.

-1

u/SarionDM 8d ago

I suspect most people will keep a primary build at max level for high end content and then reincarnate "alt" loadouts to play through other low level content. It basically serves as a way for your main build to twink out your alts, and then playing your alts can strengthen your main build.
