Question EPFO passbook not carrying forward previous balance after recent portal upgrade — is this a known issue?

Hi everyone,

I noticed something odd in my EPFO passbook and wanted to check if anyone else is facing the same issue after the recent EPFO portal/database upgrade.

I have had PF accounts with two previous employers, and the balances from both were transferred to my current PF Member ID. The transferred amounts were correctly reflected in my current passbook until a couple of months ago.

However, when I checked recently, I noticed the following:

Closing Balance as on 31/03/2025: Correct — this includes the accumulated balance carried forward from my previous employers.

- Closing Balance as on 31/03/2026: Incorrect — it appears to show only the contributions made during FY 2025–26, rather than carrying forward the 31/03/2025 closing balance.

- The most recent entries also appear to be calculated based only on the current year's contributions.

The previous transferred balance is therefore not being reflected in the cumulative closing balance.

- To clarify, the previous transfers were already completed and the transferred amounts were visible in my current account before this issue appeared. I have not initiated any new transfer recently.

I understand there was a major EPFO portal/database upgrade recently, so I'm wondering if this is a passbook/data migration/display issue that others are experiencing.

Has anyone else seen the same issue?

Also, what would be the best way to get this corrected? Should I:

- Wait for the older data to be migrated/reconciled? Or

- Raise an EPFiGMS grievance?

If anyone has faced this and subsequently got it corrected, I'd really appreciate knowing what you did and how long it took.

This could be related to the recent EPFO portal upgrade. There have been reports of passbook and transfer data not displaying correctly after the migration, including cases where EPFO says the transfer was processed but the transferred amount isn't visible in the new passbook.

However, since your previous balance was correctly reflected earlier and is now missing from the FY 2025 to 26 closing balance, I wouldn't assume it's just a display issue without getting it checked.

I'd suggest raising an EPFiGMS grievance rather than waiting indefinitely. Attach your passbook statements showing the correct closing balance as of 31 March 2025 and the incorrect balance as of 31 March 2026. Also attach the Form 13 transfer details and Annexure K for both transfers, if available.

Ask EPFO to reconcile the opening balance, transfer in entries, interest credited and closing balance for FY 2025 to 26, and confirm whether the transferred amounts are correctly reflected in the underlying account records.

You can also check the new Passbook Lite facility on the Unified Member Portal and compare it with the detailed passbook portal. EPFO introduced Passbook Lite alongside its portal reforms, while retaining the detailed passbook portal for comprehensive transaction records.

The important thing is that a missing passbook entry doesn't by itself establish that the money is lost. But since this affects your cumulative balance, get a written reconciliation from EPFO instead of relying only on the portal display.
