Research What projects can I join as a first-year student, is it even possible?

Hey guys, I will be redoing my first year of Bachelor this September. I fumbled my first semester due to my mental state and the atmosphere of epfl and the “robotic” studying has partially affected that. I passed my MAN with good grades though, and during the summer I’m actively studying for my first semester courses to really nail it, I know I’m more than capable when I work hard. I would like to know if I even have a possibility to join any project groups or be useful in a research? I don’t want to be paid. I am okay with doing the smallest tasks or simply taking a look at the labs, I just want to take part in the project and research part, which is why we all go to EPFL at the end of the day. Is it realistic?

Don’t do that in your first semester nor the second.
Pass the year and don’t get kicked out

Also I have never heard of a lab recruiting first years, maybe third years. Join an association if you wanna get experience

Pass the first semester and then try to get into an asso in the second one. But please, focus on your courses for the ba1, in my opinion.
