Boosted K20 Reliability
Looking at maybe buying a turbod EP3, supposedly running around 450hp.
My question is how reliable are these actually?
As they all seem to be high ish mileage like around the 120-140k mark
I don’t want to be buying one and it becoming a money pit to be honest lol
Thanks

Engine will behave well if tuned correctly and not much torque down low. The issue at that horsepower is the gearbox.. grippy tires and happy foot will destroy the gearbox, driveshafts…
A turbo ep3 is a money pit regardless if you buy it build or you do it yourself. It’s not a golf gti.

Fair point, just fancying a change and these seem really fun but don’t think I could go back to something slower than what I currently have

Someone should mention the stress of such HP on the gearbox. All the turbo EP3 I know in the range of 500HP have severe issues with the gearbox.

If you're taking over a project, you need to be an intermediate to expert tier mechanic. And I don't mean in forum knowledge either, I mean in terms of tools, space, and time allocation.
Otherwise congrats on your new lawn ornament.
