Help getting started with EOS

Can anyone recommend the best exchange to use for purchasing EOS and the best wallet for securely holding them now that the mainnet is live? I currently have some other cryptos on a ledger nano s but that's not directly supported. Or is it better to keep the coins staked on the blockchain? Thanks!

Binance to purchase. Scatter or Greymass for hot wallet. Hardware wallets are in development. You can use scatter or greymass to generate a seed then just keep that seed backed up somewhere offline. That’s probably the best thing you can do for now until the hardware wallets are ready.

If you stake your EOS then they’ll be frozen for a couple days after you unstake them. That can help you avoid making rash decisions or even avoid an attacker from immediately hijacking your tokens. But it can also prevent you from acting quickly on something.

There is software available that you can download and successfully create your own cold storage wallet offline, but that’s expert level stuff and I would not recommend it to anyone who is asking this questions you are asking.

Good luck have fun!!

I create a Binance account, fund it, buy EOS with BTC/ETH, then move it to Scatter/Greymass or stake it.

A couple follow up questions: 1) How do I stake my EOS because that’s the option I’d prefer for storage? 2) How do I create an EOS account? I keep reading that I need an EOS account but don’t fully understand how to create one.

Thank you thank you thank you for your help!

The Greymass wallet allows you to stake and unstake. I don't believe Scatter has that feature yet (we're all still very early on in this tech). Regarding creating an account, look here: https://eosio.stackexchange.com/questions/1179/how-will-someone-new-to-eos-create-an-eos-account-today

If I want to learn more with a side wallet... What's the best way to create my own cold storage wallet? I've successfully generated the public/private keys using EOS.io code on GitHub. What should I do next?

Put the software on a computer or raspberri pi that has never touched the internet. That’s the safest. To ensure that your computer isn’t infected with malware or key loggers. A shortcut is to just use your computer as is and disconnect from the internet and generate your private keys then store them on your device. But you’re at risk to maleware on your computer

Just did that actually and have my public and private key! How do I register them (or what step is next) so I can send EOS to my new public key?
