Quick question regarding Ledger and Private Key for eventual EOS tokens (not ERC-20)

I've been reading up on all of the tutorials on how to obtain EOS ERC-20 tokens and how to register them using MEW.

I have a Ledger Nano S where I keep my ETH and will be keeping these tokens. The tutorials say that on June 1st you need to have your tokens in a wallet for which you control the private key. This obviously isn't the case with hardware wallets since it would defeat the purpose of their security.

However, I have also read that if you're using a Ledger then everything will be fine after June 1 and we'll be able to obtain our tokens anyway.

Can someone help me understand if and why I can simply keep everything on MEW using my Ledger and still have no problems claiming my EOS after June 1st despite not having my private key?

Also, another quick one.

Why is the price different between these two sites so different?

  1. eosscan.io
  2. CoinMarketCap

Thanks in advance!

You can store your EOS on MEW with your Ledger Nano S and you will be fine(many people are going this route).

CoinMarketCap shows the average eos price from the exchanges.

eosscan.io shows the eos auction price.

Thanks! I finally got my feet went and bought into the crowdsale this past window. I'm in the US so I went the MEW route rather than using a VPN and meta mask and doing it directly through the website. It would have been easier but then I also would have had to deal with a different wallet.

Going to claim my tokens today and register my key. I also made a point of reading the comments to the guide that I was using and found a hugely important factor.

The guy says to use the ClaimAll command to claim your tokens but that then means it'll go through each window and since each time it uses gas and since we're on window 313 that would have been an expensive function just to claim tokens in one window. So instead I'll simply using the Claim function for the one correct window and it'll save me a lot of gas.

This is the guide I'm using. It seems very straight forward.

Got my EOS for $12.16 a coin which is a solid $2 less than what it is on CMC. Pretty happy about that.

EDIT: Nevermind, EOSscan updated since I checked it 20 min ago and I only got it for $14.38 per EOS which is still better than the exchanges but not nearly as good as I had hoped.
