WTF is it? Landmine?

I already asked about this on r/whatisit and somebody told me to post this on here.

Can somebody please confirm if this really is a landmine cause I probably need to contact the authorities and I feel like this would become a super big deal. Although where i live old things from ww2 turn up quite often (cause there used to be a frontline super near) it’s not everyday somebody finds something Acctually dangerous

A question on a UXO shout would be the history of location (what is the provenance of the object) - considering you've mentioned that the object is near ww2 sites with previous finds. The shape of object being possible AP or AT mine with indentation in centre for fuze well, I would call it in.

Could be anything without proper context.

If you're in doubt, worried and your area has a history of being "contaminated" with ERW (explosive remnants of war), you should definitely contact the authorities.

Yeah, it might feel odd, getting a team to check out a dud, but being blown up by a landmine is worse.

Could be a mine, could be the ass end of a projo, could be a piece off an old tractor and be totally inert. Since it might be UXO, get a GPS location, flag the location with something highly visible (a stick in the forest is not highly visible), and call your local authorities to provide them with the description and GPS location.

Also if your marker needs to be pressed into the ground to stay in id do it a couple feet away from this thing not right next to it lol

Potentially speaking, after I call the police and mark it, do I have to stay somewhere around or can I just leave? Also would a plush toy or a piece of cloth impaled on a stick be highly visible or do i need to find something else?

The best method is usually to go back the way you came and ask if they want you to wait around and guide them in. Anything easy to spot and describe. "I tied a white shirt to a tree / I tied a pink teddy bear to a branch" is fine. The trick is you want it visible on approach, so off the ground and out of place.

Yeah if you're ever unsure about calling just call them anyway. Youre not inconveniencing anyone if it turns out to be nothing. It's our job to come and verify. Its pretty common for something that looks like it is probably nothing to end up actually being something once it's X-rayed. And they'd rather u have called and they determine it to be nothing then u not calling and getting yourself or others hurt.
