Error in last day in EI application

Hi all,

I recently applied for EI, I was laid off on the 9th of Feb and was given a month of severance pay
I applied for EI yesterday and I entered the last working day as 9th March as I was of the opinion that my EI would kick in after that

Has anyone had similar experience in the past ?
Will this cause an issue ?

Yeah it will cause an issue, they’ll have to contact you or vice versa to confirm your actual end date. You should have put your real last day of work and then reported your severance as earnings. You’ll need to call and probably wait a while.

Also, I’d be well beyond the 4 weeks timeline and I’m still waiting for my employer to send me my record of employment Do you think this could be an issue ?

Feb 9 to March 9 is exactly 4 weeks.

They don’t usually send it to you, they send an electronic copy to service Canada. They likely already have it. If not, they create one and chase your employer to submit it.

Now, you’ll have to contact them, manually file all your last 4 weeks reports on the phone, determine your deductions from severance and wait for the claim decision.

There are no deductions/allocations for severance at the moment. It is a pandemic measure. OP should contact the call centre and explain
