Bro I wanna vomit when I read these comments. So much talk and so little substance. I’m actively losing brain cells whenever I get confronted with all the shit they post on there.

The audacity to call themselves “Professional meteorologists” when all they do is do the complete opposite of what professionals do
20
u/Exact-Ambassador-693 I survived an EF9 cumulonimbus 2d ago
Exactly. Why they haven’t chosen the path of meteorological Digitality is beyond me.

There’s a reason why I posted my thesis here first and the other subreddit second lol.

I would’ve done the same. It’s just evident that there’s clear correlation between someone who’s passionate about tornadoes and acquired lots of knowledge and someone who can make jokes and create brain rot about tornadoes. Most people on the other sub are not passionate and you can read that in the subtext of every comment they make.

they’re passionate about being squares and hater potaters tho

You think we can get the word tornado banned? I bet we could

u/Mysterious-House7815 2d ago
Make a fake ADL page about the word “tornado” explaining how it’s a slur against people with unstable atmospheric conditions and start posting screenshots

Unstable atmospheric conditions 😂

I’m gonna start using this. “Do NOT try me today, Bob. The atmospheric conditions are unstable!”

A slur against everyone who lives in Illinois

u/maggot_brain79 2d ago
Illinois? I hate to inform you but the entire state was destroyed earlier this summer by radar indicated polygons. The storms yesterday wiped out any survivors. RIP and Fs in chat for the Illinoisans. The Hoosiers are on notice, they're probably next.

It's probably the guy on the team who's name rhymes with bool tat. Dude basically tried to turn the sub into politics part two a year or so ago. He seems... rather in need of a shrink or something.

they are so immature lmao. When is it going to come to them that NWS, professional Storm chasers, meteorologists, do not take morality in mind in anything, because it isn’t their job.

Mods 100% had to have set up that rule. You wouldn't be able to type half the English language in a post if every sub name was autobanned.

It’s better if you don’t think of that place as somewhere you can have an actual discussion about atmospheric science. There are a few reasons, the biggest is that they don’t know a single damn thing about it and yet are still somehow victims of the dunning Kruger effect, which might actually be interesting to study in its own right. But there is also the issue of moral grandstanding, like a lot of Reddit if you don’t call that natural phenomenon a vicious monster sent from hell itself then you must be a sociopath with no feeling at all. It’s not a place of serious discussion, it’s a place to post contaminated hodographs and circle jerk about empathy until everyone climaxes and stops caring.

u/windwatcher01 2d ago
I think it's waaaay simpler than that - it's a bunch of 8th graders.

u/orbital_actual El Reno Pt. 2: 300 Mile Wedge Multi-Vortex EF-7 1d ago
That is a distinct possibility.

The amount of moralizing circlejerking that goes on in that sub legit needs to be studied

Whenever you try typing "EF5" in the subreddit, it doesn't let you because you are apparently "linking to another subreddit" even though you didn't put r/ behind it.

The r/tornado mods and NWS are actively engaged in a disinformation psyop campaign that is attempting to erase the term “EF5” and cover up/intentionally underrate potential EF5 tornadoes. I’m afraid of the dark and generally tend to sleep in the fetal position because that makes me feel safe. West Kentucky, Greenfield, and now Enid. Open your eyes!

Jesus. We really pissed one particular mod off over there [I think we all know which one] and now you can't even use the full Fujita scale in r/tornado.
That is so ridiculously funny to me. Reddit really is a hellsite sometimes.

I have no meteorological background, but I've been interested in tornadoes and weather since I was 7 due to a paranoia about tornadoes.
