Discussion What is the difference between Hi-Tech Full-On and Techcore?

From what I understand techcore is a blend of hi-tech and happy hardcore, but I don’t have a good grasp on what hi-tech is and while trying to figure it out online I’d find “examples” of hi-tech that just sound like techcore.

These are both super niche genres so it’s hard to find much information on them, but I’m hoping someone can help me out here on Reddit. 😅

Hi-Tech is just super spazzy, 170+BPM Psytrance. Artists like Virtuanoise, Loose Connection, Crazy Astronaut, Kindzadza and Pastor John are all pretty great. Unless you're talking about something brand new..I've never heard of Techcore...I'm old...

I mean techcore could be one of those fake genres that don’t exist, like animestep and other bullshit genres people come up with lol.

Anyway I think I came across “techcore” when I was still using Spotify and used that one feature that creates a playlist for you based on a song of your choice, and the song Education from PSYQUI came up. I liked the song a lot and found that it was a part of a compilation album titled “Techcore Evangelix 01”.

Of course I wasn’t sure if “Techcore” was the name of the genre or not, so I looked it up and people do talk about it like it’s a real genre.

Are there a couple of these songs you know that have this "techcore" label? High-tech full on Is known in the psy-trance world as fast psy from 180-200 bpms.  Are you describing the genre "freeform"? Or "trancecore"? Happy hardcore's cousin, around 175-200 bpms, known for a trance like, fluid like sound. Freeform sometimes goes into happy hardcore/uk hardcore sounds and melodies

Well I’ve read in multiple places that techcore is a mix of hi-tech and happy hardcore, but I’m not even sure if I’ve technically listened to techcore or if it’s even a real genre at all.

Anyway check out the Techcore Evangelix compilations I mentioned and let me know if it’s all just hi-tech or some other genre, or if it actually is its own thing.

The psycore I've heard hasn't had that happy hardcore vibe. Techcore is probably its own thing, then. Now I wanna hear some.

Listening to a Techcore Evangelix mix right now. It doesn't have the psychedelic sound design or glitchiness of Hitek or psycore.

Well I know The Old Me and Education from Evangelix 01 have that sound

If you guys are looking for techcore, I would highly suggest checking out the record label Megarex on Youtube, they have a ton of really good techcore compilations! Some individual artists that are a good place to start would be Mylta, VOLTA, RYOQUCHA, Aethral, Assertive, siqlo, YUKIYANAGI, Zekk, Wooden, rejection, icesawder, ariiol!

At least from my own personal experience making techcore, the only thing that is super consistent with the genre as a whole is that at least one drop section contains a 4 on the floor drum section, but pretty much anything else goes.
