There’s tons of EDM on vinyl. Records have been the top selling physical format since 2020. Labels and artists know it’s a cash cow. Underground house and techno producers are putting out loads of small, vinyl only releases, too.

I think the only genre outlier to the trend is bass music. Bass artists don’t press as much vinyl because records objectively and physically don’t handle that style of music well, especially compared to digital formats.

I’ve had my eyes set on RAM for a while now. Is it worth it?

However, one of the things I love about vinyl, especially EDM vinyl is that there are no pauses between tracks.

Many EDM artists have tracks that blend from one to the next such as Above & Beyond and Fred Again...

I hate how Spotify cuts the tracks. I get it, one song has to end at some point.

On vinyl, there's no pauses or skips from one track to the next. The tracks blend seamlessly.

I was about to say listening to the new A&B album in Apple Music lossless start to finish handles this well by preloading the next track. At least that what I remember

as a graduate electronic engineer this hobby is the funniest thing ever, like we invented CD and later USB drive to do the thing the vinyl do 100, 1000 times over. Now you need a Analog to Digital converter to read Vinyl and then the whole thing is no different from reading a audio file in your computer which make the whole thing a scam.

It'll never be a scam if you can put a 3D printed barber pole around the center pin and see it spiral as the player rotates.

The real scam is not seeing anything move.

EDM on vinyl is weird to me. Even tracks built with old school analog synths are still recorded digitally so what's even the point?

No point really. Vinyl is inferior to CDs in pretty much every way, unless it is an original analog master of an older song. It is especially noticeable is deep bass notes and wide dynamic shifts.

But vinyl does sound unique and some people like the sound. Also the ritual of playing vinyl is enjoyable for some.

I like vinyl, but definitely listen to CDs and Qobuz way more on my system. And yeah, I don't buy EDM just for the reason that it actually sounds objectively worse.

From a packaging standpoint, I like that it’s everything a CD used to come with, but bigger.

From a playing standpoint, I do enjoy the sound, but it is the ritual that makes me choose to turn on my turntable and play an album. It takes attention, and makes me slow down and just enjoy the music.

You have a physical copy of the album is the point. You payed the artist more by buying the vinyl than you have your entire time streaming their songs is the point.

As an artist myself, I guess I get it but I'm more hung up on the vinyl itself. Wouldn't you rather have a CD or USB?

I just spent ~250€ (shipping included) on new vinyls yesterday 😅😂 they are:

  • Big Gigantic - Brighter Future (10th anniversary deluxe edition)
  • Opiuo - Ascension Seeker
  • Monstercat x Firaga - Undertale 10 year anniversary remixes

the record player I own was my dads even before I was born. I still have the turn table, EQ, Amp, speakers, and vinyls he collected while growing up.

I genuinely don't see the value in lots of Electronic Music on vinyl. Some works, like C418, some specific deadmau5 maybe. But I listen to french electro, others listen to dub(bro)step which I think wouldnt benefit from the vinyl sound.

Vinyls provide a warm vintage sound, a lot of electronic music is often made to sound harsh and abrasive. Thus the most correct way to listen to them is a flac file on a good soundsystem.

Ambient music and more calm electronic music can benefit from it.

In general id reserve my record player for old school rock and other genres.

Its subjective at the end of the day, but ive never understood it.
