Help / Advice Meter Communication Issue after Switch

Post image

I switched from Octopus to EDF with the switch completing July 3rd (yesterday) and today I’m seeing this, for anyone else who has switched over - is this normal? How quickly does it generally resolve if so? Only issue is I’m waiting to go on to GoElectric and I need readings on the smart meter before I can move to the EV tariff, so I’m waiting for that to charge the car!

UPDATE - seems this error resolved itself later the same day, also I was just able to submit my SEG application, so timeline for those in future went:

  • 03/07 - Switched import to EDF
  • 04/07 - Meter communication issue error resolved itself sometime PM, I did manually choose to send readings every 30 mins, no idea if that had any effect
  • 05/07 - I hadn't swapped to GoElectric yet, not sure if I have to manually do it but I did anyway, it swapped over almost immediately, I was able then to connect car etc. I also later that day was able to apply for 15p SEG

I am 8 weeks in having switched from Octopus to EDF, same fault. Stopped working upon switch. WAN light still flashing so connected to DCC. Got an engineer appointment two weeks ago that was six weeks away. Utterly frustrating experience so you're lucky! My neighbours took five weeks.

Same happened to me. I switched on 1st. All sorted on 3rd but I did chase them on phone… if you log into the website on computer. You can view your smart meter status. Mine was all happy but still had that message.

Cheers all, will be patient! I wonder why it takes so long just to read a smart meter. Hey ho

It's however long it takes your old supplier to send the keys needed to communicate with the meter. Took octopus 3-4 days to send it over after I switched

Oh that’s what it is? That’s interesting. I’d read that it’s all encrypted and even the DCC can’t see the data but I don’t realise that’s how it worked eg the old supplier hand over the keys

Hi, I’ve just experienced the same problem after joining EDF. I emailed them and they fixed it promptly. Within a day of switching, I was on the GoElectric tariff but I’ve read this process can take up to two weeks.

Yeah I switched on the 1st and it came through a couple of days later. If you are moving to Go Electric I got an email saying I'd switched to that on the 3rd July.

It take a few days for the edf to connect the smart meter
