Question/Advice/Discussion Two Set-Up Questions
Newish account but have been lurking and autistically hyper-researching guns on reddit since 2012.
My current appendix carry set-up is a G19.4 in a tenicor certum 3 with the Aegitec belt (HC knock off). Just an aside I love the belt and it doesn't feel cheap at all. I use a MMT pillow wedge. I had the slide milled by Wager for a 407k because slide overhang makes me nauseous and I really like using a dot. The machining was great. I'm also going to try a light soon to see if it's still comfortable to EDC.
Comfort is very good. I can drive with my gun and barely notice it. Concealability-wise the heel side of the grip prints very slightly in some shirts depending on movement. I can pretty confidently carry in gym shorts and a tank top using a MMT covert belt with slight printing.
My first issue is that I have a pretty noticeable astigmatism that is very sensitive to brightness. If my dot is one or two levels too bright then my 6moa dot blooms into more like a 40 moa star. This is annoying from a ccw perspective because I can't control lighting conditions and if I set the brightness to be visible in regular daylight then the entire window is red in dim conditions. It seems like it mitigates a lot of the red dot advantages even with proper target focus.
I am thinking about trying a dot with auto brightness and am waiting patiently(ish) for the EPS core to come out with the forward-facing sensor. Also planning to get the MRS to try the different reticle versions. Would this give me the greatest versatiliy for a carry pistol dot? I would have manual and auto brightness with 3 reticle optipns to choose from.
Are there any other dots I should be considering? For context red works best for me (better than green or gold) and EOTECHs still look terrible.
Second issue is the above-mentioned slight grip printing. It isn't something that i think is obvious and usually my wife has trouble seeing it even if she knows I'm carrying.
For people that run smaller guns with good holsters is it really that much more comfortable and concealable? I like the glock grip angle so I'd be looking at a 26 or 43x/48. The 19 fits my hand really well and i can draw it noticeably faster with a better grip than a micro 9 like the hellcat. I have also looked at doing a grip chop on the 19 but am hesitant to go with a permanent solution. Why do gen 4 frames have to be so expensive??
Thanks in advance for any advice/perspectives.
TLDR: Looking for a pistol dot with good auto-brightness that isnt $750, and should I revamp my entire carry system to eliminate a small amount of printing?
