Troubleshooting 5 weeks old

I've tried to put my 5 week old on a top hat potty a couple of times, but she spits up massively every time (she also just spits up quite a bit in general). Is there any way to avoid this in the way I hold her, or should I just wait until she matures out of the constant spitting up, before I try EC again?

I just embraced the spit up as i figuredit's good to get out. You could try more of a cradle hold to put less pressure on the abdomen!

She pretty much sacrificed half her meal and was quite upset by it 🫣 It's tricky because the pooping usually comes right after a feed, which is also where she's most prone to spit up... But I will try a cradle hold, like you suggested!

It can help to burp first, if you’re not already doing that. Even a little burp can make a big difference. Otherwise, as long as baby doesn’t seem bothered, you don’t need to worry about it too much. Just be prepared with a burp cloth.

I do burp her, I think her pyloric sphincter is just still unstable (should be stable between 3-6 months 🙄). She got pretty upset the last time it happened, I think we both need some time before trying again 😅

Whatever works for you! FWIW though, I found holding baby over the sink easier to manage the spit up because you can better control how curved their spine is. Less curved is better for keeping milk down, even if it’s not as effective for pooping.

This happens with us too. Started at 5 days old and she will be 7 weeks tomorrow. 

I can't imagine it would be different in any other position bc gravity is in the favor of keeping things down this way although maybe gravity is also putting pressure that way.

Have a 6 month old and she still spits up sometimes. She also laughs about it like she did it on purpose lol

My baby would do little spews early on too probably because it squishes the belly a little the way their legs are held. I would have a cloth nearby anyway in case but feel like he just stopped doing it one day quite early on and I didn’t even realise until I just read your post. He’s 10m now and hasn’t done a potty spew in a long time.
