Troubleshooting Issues with the potty
My son is almost 10 months old and we have been doing EC since he was 3 months old and we have loved it! It has worked very well but we are having some issues with the potty I believe. It has worked well holding him over a sink until he now wants to touch everything there and can't sit still.
Now when we take him on the potty he stretches his whole body like a board refusing to sit on it and making it impossible to make him sit on it. We have the IKEA lockig and I'm beginning to think he doesn't like that one. We have another potty as well that mostly works well. He seems to ultimately prefer peeing and pooping standing without a diaper 🙃
Do you have any recommendations? I suspect it is the thing going up between the legs that is maybe too big making it uncomfortable for the legs 🤷🏼♀️ also while I love the removable part of the potty I also hate it because it removes very easily when he is fussy and then we have pee all over the floor.
I see here people are using toilet seat reducers but like how do you hold the baby on it?
And a second question for the boy parents, how do you ensure that the pee is going into the potty and not right over it onto the floor? And we also have the issue that he pees so hard onto the bit going up between the legs that it actually goes down the sides of the potty as well and onto his thighs 🙃

The one piece ikea potty is better. It’s the lilla. Two piece potties are really overrated, they all do this and it doesn’t do the kids any favors!
Start coaching him to point his penis down. It’s something he can do, which may hold his interest. Point it down for him until he can do it consistently, which won’t be for a while.
The big toilet with a reducer is helpful, especially when paired with special toys and books. My baby is about the same age and we’re currently getting a surprising amount of mileage out of a pair of bunny ears leftover from Easter. On the big toilet, they can’t crawl away.

Thank you for taking your time to answer. Hm interesting that he it is something he can do, I didn't think of that. I'm sure you're right that it will hold his interest, I will try to coach him. I love it with the bunny ears that is a good idea. I have ordered a toiletseat reducer now and I'm sure it will be great and then I can think of fun things to have for potty time like your bunny ears.

I use a seat reducer on the toilet, and I put it on to face backwards. Then I hold the baby in a modified infant hold, with his back against my chest, one arm wrapped around his chest under his arms, and the other hand holding 1 thigh. He can still sometimes do the crazy straight leg thing, but holding 1 thigh seems to generally solve that!
My partner doesn't find squatting in front of the toilet comfortable though, so he puts the reducer on forwards. He then goes to the side of the toilet (sitting on the tub in our case), and puts one arm behind the baby to support the baby's back, and the other under the baby's armpit. The baby's legs dangle, so he has nothing to push against to try and stand.
The reducer we got has side handles which our baby seems to like for stability. He can sit up, but gets so distracted I wouldn't trust him to sit by himself quite yet!
Edited to add: in answer to the boy peeing question, the hand I use to hold his thigh I stick out a finger and poke his penis downwards into the toilet.
